I personally think it's BS. I'm sure college would be much easier if you didn't have any money concerns. 

If you're poor, knowing your family was financially secure and not having that on your mind would likely allow you to focus your attention on the game, maybe watch more film, maybe play better, etc. 

Terrible decision (which fits right in with where we are as a society) imo

Not surprised at all. We have devolved into a society where there are no consequences for not following rules. Pete Rose in the baseball hall of fame should follow.
