How about a football post? I'll start with Kirby...

talking about depth at his pressor the other day.   I found it odd that he said something to the effect that this was the least depth they've had.  I believe ole Kirby is spouting some BS.  I would contend this is by far the deepest team we've had.

Let's take a look:

OL - maybe the deepest we've ever had.  SHOULD be one of the best if not THE best.  Some concern with Wilson's tendonitis, but, he should be good by week 1.
WR - this group has been discussed as much as any on the team.   UGA has taken a beating on WR recruiting...but, by all accounts, we may have the deepest group we've had in years.  We've got 7-8 guys that can play and the rotation should be REALLY good.

Lovett, Young, D. Bell, Evans, Smith, Evans, Humphreys, Jackson are all going to see plenty or reps.   Tuggle, J. Bell, and White will also see some run.   Lovett should be our first guy over 1000 yds in a long time.  Evans may be the most explosive.  If Smith can catch it, he will be a huge problem...fastest guy in the SEC and maybe NCAA.

RB - This group is just scary.    Still expect to see Etienne sit for Clems son.  But, he's the Alpha for the season.  Frazier is opening eyes every practice is a straight up STUD.  He will play early and often.   Rod Rob..still nursing an injury and maybe a decision on whether he plays vs. Clemson.  Branson Robinson is probably "Chubb-esque" in his injury return...shocking he's out there with no limitations and will play week 1.  Bowen's has been strong also.   Lastly...expect our man Cash Jones to get snaps.   RB could get interesting week 1 if Etienne doesn't play and Rod Rob can't go.

TE - Hard to ever say a group could be better without BB...but, this group is SOLID.   Delp and Yurosek are both studs now.  Luckey is a problem also.   The true Freshman Reddell is a damn good replacement for Bowers.   He's a man already.   Expect us to go 12 and even 13 personnel often.  This group is going to make the RB's shine too.  We could win at least 9 of the games on our schedule without throwing a pass.

QB - IF you're going to worry about the season, worry about Beck staying upright.   But, Stockton and Pugs are making moves.  Both have looked solid.   Rashada is not ready for SEC football...yet.

I'm not ready to say this will be the best offense ever at UGA...but, it sure has a chance.  We are better at almost every position over last year...

We'll do the defense next week.

I hope you are right, Dawgnatty, but I think you might be drinking the Koolaid through red colored glass.

Just a few items of devils advocate:

BB was the best player in college football last year. There would be a dropoff even if we replaced him with the second best tight end in UGA history.
We got two RBs toting the rock in the NFL now. Cautiously optimistic on the crew we have, but it seems like this position is a wash at best
where is this great depth you speak of on the OL? we have 7 guys that have logged significant playing time in the past, we lost the best center we have had in ages, and our best tackle from last year is lighting it up so far in the NFL. There was good reason there was a dropoff when Truss was there. Looked good in practice doesn't count.
Lovett is the same guy that got 613 yards last year despite McHonkey being limited in action. Is Evans so good he's going to play two positions at once? And who bailed us out time and time again last year when we needed a clutch play? Marcus Rosemy Jacksaint every time. We are going to miss that guy.

Frazier just arrived during the summer. He showed up looking like he had been in our S&C for a year plus.

He’s killing our ILBs and going against the ones. He’s making guys miss. He’s catching bombs.

J. Bell has been one of the talks of camp...but, you know that already.  The kid can play and is likely going to see some reps...maybe a bunch.   But, Humphreys has already played in SEC games and WOtS is he's taken to liking the blocking role.  Also, may be our second or third fastest receiver.  A foot race with him, Evans and Smith would be must see TV.

THe 1000 yd thing is more of shedding a false narrative in recruiting against us.

Boing!  Speaking of chubby, I like this post!
Frazier just arrived during the summer. He showed up looking like he had been in our S&C for a year plus.

He’s killing our ILBs and going against the ones. He’s making guys miss. He’s catching bombs.

Thanks, Astrodawg!
No prob, Negatron

Fair points from the International Concourse!!!   I would offer a few things:
- NO doubt on BB...However, we are deeper at the position, even if we don't have one hero.
- I'd take any of the 4 top RB's we have now over the two in the NFL.  Period.  Last two years was the weakest running game in the last several years.  Neither back could break a run over 20 yds.   Didn't have he speed.  Both were good for what they were.  But, we are far more multifaceted in the running game now with legitimate home run guys.
- We may be BETTER at the C position.  What Wilson lacks in experience and leadership, he makes up for in athleticism.  When was the last time we had 7 guys that had taken significant snaps?  I'd argue our best tackle is still on the team.  EG is the real deal and will get paid come draft time.  I won't argue about Truss.
- Lovett's failure last year was not his own.  It was a lack of proper usage.  I believe that will be corrected.
- I don't understand the comment on Evans.  He will take up some of the slack left by Rara.
- MRJ was a steady performer and made some plays.   All while being one of the slowest receivers on the team.  We'll see.   I believe we have a better group all around this year.   Especially when you consider Ladd wasn't healthy half the season.

Look, it's just my opinion.   Take it for what you paid for it.  I'm not offering it as the gospel and I'm sure I'm missing on several things.  Also, no doubt I have red-tinted glasses and I hope I keep wearing them.   Time will tell and it wouldn't surprise me if I'm way off.  But, this also may be the best team of the Kirby era...again, we'll see soon enough.

For starters, I'm mostly just trying to talk my own self out of believing we are going to be 17-0 and being so good we are invited to play in the Super Bowl against whichever NFL conference produces the better team.

But...go back and look at Milton's highlight reel and stats from last year - he was incredible down the stretch.  790 yards on 121 carries, 6.5 average, 15 tds, with a long run of 41 yards.  He was what he could have been his entire career if he had been healthy - a legit 5 star player.
We had more depth in 2022 by far on the O line.
You mentioned Evans twice in your post.  I know he's fast, but he can only be out there one play at a time.
You are making my case for me on MRJ - a slow guy that didn't have great moves but just kept on making plays.  WE WILL MISS HIM, trust me.  There are always plenty of guys with talent, but its hard to replace that heart.  But with Kirby, we reload instead of rebuild.  I hope someone else can pick up where he left off.

(08-15-2024, 10:17 AM)Replying to DawgNatty talking about depth at his pressor the other day.
