(10-17-2024, 10:41 AM)Replying to JC-DAWG83 I think my biggest issue is that we haven't looked disciplined or dominant in any of our games.  Watching Georgia  play for the past four or five years was like watching a well oiled machine run on the field.  Now, we look like a jalopy rattling and clattering down the road.  We are going in the direction we want to go but it seems obvious that wheels could start coming off at any moment.

Agree. Far from expecting us to be the most dominant program on Earth, I at least expect us to look prepared that someone might throw a forward pass.
The so-called 'eye discipline' is lacking and it is almost funny watching us look as hapless as some of the teams we have beaten down these last 4 years -
Like when we get burned on a pass in the endzone and no one is covering but it's called back due to a PI and the motherfuckers run the SAME DAMN play
on us again and we look just as lost the second time. I used to enoy thinking 'this team is so lost they don't even know what we are doing to them', but the tables have turned

Well put.  We look decidedly "ordinary" compared to pretty much all of Kirby's teams since his first year.  We are still a good team but we were a good team under Richt and, sadly, we look a lot like Richt's teams did, talented but undisciplined and poorly coached in the fundamentals.  OL play is back to Richt/Bobo era mediocre and tackling and DB play looks like Willie Martinez is back in Athens.

In the end, Dabo may be on the right track regarding the portal.  Our two portal WRs that were so good are now both off of the team due to off field issues.  The NIL money these guys are getting and the unlimited free agency have made them immune to any sort of discipline from the coach.  It really doesn't upset me, this is exactly what I predicted would happen with NIL and the transfer portal.  Other than their potential draft position there is very little to motivate a player to really give his all on every play.

Like I've said for quite a while now, college football had a good run.

I hate to say it myself, but your second paragraph is spot on..

I’m not too upset with the O, we are a pass first team this year, and our stats show it..the D has been a conundrum for sure..

Not bashing him (this time) but Bobo is a pass first OC.  I think it is because he was a qb and he thinks passing is the end all be all for any O.  Even his "run game" is heavy on screen passes, which rarely work since the D knows his tendency to use them over and over.

D looks sort of lazy to me, like they think the opposing players will go down at first contact just because and they don't have to really hustle to the ball.  I think this goes back to the player attitude thing which is greatly affected by the whole NIL/transfer thing.

(10-17-2024, 09:32 AM)Replying to DawgNatty we've crossed over as a team many nationwide cheered for to a genuine villain.  Additionally, our own fan base, and I'm at the front of the line, is guilty of expecting nothing short of near perfection.

I've found myself this season just having a hard time comprehending us NOT being able to stop a team on 3rd down.  We went the better part of 3 years and rarely did you see teams convert on 3rd and long.  This season and I honestly haven't looked at the stats, it sure seems like teams are converting on the regular.  Likewise, I feel like the opposite is also true for the offense.   We've been very used to, and somewhat spoiled by the offense converting 3rd downs.  As a team, but, moreover, as a fan base, we are used to execution!!  This team has been a bit hard to watch through that lens.

As a fan base, we had back to back seasons where our indulgences were met.  We had a third season where we fell just short.  Now, we are a highly touted team that is scrapping to get back to the top.   As Kirby has noted, the world has changed a bit when it comes to building depth.  But, we still outclass a team like Texas when it comes to 4-5*s on the roster.   So, either we've likely gotten out recruited or we are getting outcoached?   I say, it's not that easy and hard for just the 4-5* numbers to tell a tale.

Complacency as a fan is hard.   I sure don't have the hunger I had 3+ years ago...but, I still have the desire.  We'll see what happens.

Go Dawgs!!

bloom might be oft the rose BUT...

IDIOT.

it's hilarious that people expect to be the same after losing the defensive talent we had the last 3 yrs, especially when most of our best defensive players are out or playing at 85%. And oh yeah we lost a 3-time all american, of which the university of Georgia has had exactly 3 of in its entire history of fucking football. the combined record of those 3 players is 109-11, the most recent of which went 42 and fucking 2 with 2 national championships. and the fanbase expects bidness as usual. so that is indeed stupidity, sorriness, all of it. people wanted Stetson benched early in 2021. now he deserves a goddamn statue. everrybody wants to win, that's the core of being a fan. but ignoring obvious shit and just demanding perfection in college football is dumb as fuck. win or fucking lose, fuck florida, fuck texas, and fuck florida
