Monday morning game thoughts
#1
1.  I was dead wrong about the game.  I had seen nothing up until kickoff Saturday that made me think we had a D that could play the way it did Saturday night.  Our O played about like I expected, mediocre.

2.  Beck is average as unsalted grits.  He had plenty of passes dropped but he also threw some terrible balls and he still doesn't see open receivers.  I guess he's got his NIL money, his Lamborghini SUV and his Miami slut girlfriend so he isn't too worried about much.  The WRs are mediocre at best but Beck throwing balls behind them and over their heads isn't helping them any.

3.  Bobo still sucks balls.  When we got the ball with about 4 minutes to play in the fourth and needed to burn clock he calls three pass plays in a row.  Three incompletions and a whopping 36 seconds later we punt the ball back to Texas.  I know there were a couple drops but three running plays would have used a couple of minutes or forced Texas to use whatever timeouts they had to stop the clock.  He still tries to get too cute with those pitch back reverses and razzle dazzle stuff in the backfield.  His obsession with screens is well known by everyone in the world and they rarely gain more than a couple yards.  I'm sure the Bobo lovers will say the scheme is sound and execution is the problem.

4.  D looked elite again.  That D has not played since the Clemson game.  It is amazing the difference having MW13 on the field makes.  When he and Jalon Walker are playing together, the opposing qb is in danger from the moment the ball is snapped.  D completely took away the Texas running game.  DBs played well too for the most part.  If this D continues to show up we should win every remaining game.

5.  TE1 looked like the player I have expected him to be since his first game.  He showed the quickness and shiftiness I remembered him having at UF.

6.  After TE1, the dropoff in our RBs is steep.  I guess having no depth really limits our RB performance.  How is it our RB room gets devastated every season by injuries?

7.  The bunch/power running formation we go into when we need one yard on fourth down or close to the goal line with a handoff to the RB is a terrible call.  This is a throwback to the Bobo/Richt days when that play rarely worked.

8.  OL was good in pass protection but continued to struggle run blocking   I don't know if it is personnel, scheme or what.  Maybe Tate coming back will help.

9.  Thorson is a jewel.  We are going to miss him when he is gone.

10.  Ditto for Woodring.  The squib was a dumb call, Kirby or whoever came up with the idea for that should be ashamed.  That one play gave Texas a td and the momentum.

11.  SEC should be embarrassed about the officiating.  It has regressed from bad to totally inept.

Good read. Agreed.
Squib wasn't called, was a near whiff.

Squib was called and Woodring mishit it.  It was supposed to go to one of the up backs because we were worried about their return man.  Ball should have been kicked out of the end zone.

Didn't catch that. I too thought it was a dumb call. I thought WTF?

Regarding your question in #6, you probably answered that. They get hurt practicing Bobo's screens.

1.  I was dead wrong about the game.  I had seen nothing up until kickoff Saturday that made me think we had a D that could play the way it did Saturday night.  Our O played about like I expected, mediocre.

Can't say anyting different here.   I expected he D to play worse and the O to play better...

I know SOME of what is going on with Beck.   I've called hiim "Check down Beck" for weeks.   Oddly, much like Stet and Monk...Beck doesn't get along with Bobo much at all and there's been a running rift between the two since the spring.   It's obvious now that Ladd and Bowers made him look good on poorly thrown balls often last year.   Come to think of it, I'd say MRJS did too.   He's been Jekyll n Hyde all season.   He has runs where he throw lasers on the money and other runs where he can't hit the side of the barn.   I know this, lasers that are thrown high for the receiver and he barely gets a hand on them tend to get batted and picked off.  He CAN do it...I don't know if he will.   Having said that...some of this criticism seems earily familier to what we had for Stet in '21.   11 has average hands at best.   Bobo has schemed 6 out of the scheme and he's cooked mentally.  86 rarely gets seperation.  Having said all that...we still have the weapons if we can put it together.

One minute Bobo will call a brilliant play...the very next series, he does what you descirbed above.   Going empty back field in this game for more than one play was a criminal offense.  PA is the best weapon Beck has.
Our best hope for the future of this program is Bobo calling it a day after the season.

12 does not want the smoke it takes to truly be an effective DB in our system.   6 played his best game yet.

5.  TE1 looked like the player I have expected him to be since his first game.  He showed the quickness and shiftiness I remembered him having at UF.

ETN is solid.

6.  After TE1, the dropoff in our RBs is steep.  I guess having no depth really limits our RB performance.  How is it our RB room gets devastated every season by injuries?

I think Frazier is as good or better than ETN.   He only got a couple of carries Saturday and their was ZERO blocking for him.   He's RB 2 and it's not close.   He will be a stud next year if he stays and is given the chance.

7.  The bunch/power running formation we go into when we need one yard on fourth down or close to the goal line with a handoff to the RB is a terrible call.  This is a throwback to the Bobo/Richt days when that play rarely worked.

Yes!

8.  OL was good in pass protection but continued to struggle run blocking   I don't know if it is personnel, scheme or what.  Maybe Tate coming back will help.

We haven't run blocked worth a duck fart consistently all year.

9.  Thorson is a jewel.  We are going to miss him when he is gone.

Yep

10.  Ditto for Woodring.  The squib was a dumb call, Kirby or whoever came up with the idea for that should be ashamed.  That one play gave Texas a td and the momentum.

I still don't know what was really going on there.   Squibb made zero sense.

11.  SEC should be embarrassed about the officiating.  It has regressed from bad to totally inept.

The head refs son is a UT grad...and the head ref himself is a Texas man (TCU grad).    If your kid graduates a school, you should be allowed to ref their games, period!!!

On Bulldog Brunch, they made a point that Doug Shows had a step son that attended UGA, so during that period (at least) he was not allowed to officiate UGA basketball games.  Kevin Butler said something about state law, but I don't know if that is really the case.

The reality is, the crew did not call a good or fair game, and whether or not his kid attended UT, or whatever, he should not be on an SEC football field ever again, nor should the rest of that crew other than maybe the chain gang.

Aside from the overturned PI, the video evidence on at least several of the calls seemed to expressly contradict the initial call.  I don't know who was driving the bus on those, the refs on the field or the replay official.  There is no doubt in my mind that Kirby spent hours pulling a list of grievances together yesterday to submit to the SEC, and unfortunately, there is no doubt in my mind that absolutely nothing will come of it.

Texas was giving up a touch over 6 points a game prior to Saturday…calling the O mediocre is far from honest..

Your first sentence summed up things perfectly..

Agree 100% about Frazier. He still looks like a freshman on a lot of plays. I was impressed with how much better his blocking looked Saturday. He is going to be a great one. Saban said he is the best HS RB he saw in 2023.

A big difference in the Beck/Bobo and Stetson/Monken thing is that Monken made Stetson look good and Stetson knew it. Stetson may not have liked Monken but he knew Monken was doing things that created open receivers. Bobo inspires no confidence in anyone.

Comment on #3: Bobo’s scheme may be great on paper, but if the players cannot execute to a high level almost all the time it is not an effective scheme in reality.

To go from a very good to a great play caller, Bobo must do 2 things:
1. Fully understand his players strengths and weaknesses.
2. Eliminate the brain freezes he has at once or twice almost every game.

He has got to develop and use a Jumbo package on every 3rd & 1 and/or 4 & 1.

If you're happy with our O, good for you.

The best offense Texas faced before us was MS State.

I am pretty sure CMR and BoBo must have resisted this dudes advances at some point. I have never seen jilted girlfriend syndrome this bad. Dude needs help or needs to get back in the closet.

Go Dawgs.

I think we know what we have and what we will have with Bobo.  He has been pretty much the same everywhere he has been and I don't think anything is going to change with him.  He has never won a championship of any kind as a player, coordinator or head coach.  I don't see that ever changing.

Maybe his future lies in the NFL where the players are better talented and his brilliant play calling won't depend on college players?

I’m not sure how #6 Lovett has been schemed out of the scheme. He’s had more catches than anyone on the team and is second in yards. He’s averaging 4 catches per game which is exactly what he averaged last year. He actually on pace to beat his yards per game and number of catches from last year.

Well, I can tell you he didn’t come here to be our WR2.   I can also tell you he and his parents aren’t happy.   What difference does that make?   It doesn’t, unless you’re trying to get another portal receiver…like we will be next season.

The fact is…he’s a weapon that we have taken advantage of.   I watch and rewatch most of our games very closely.    It’s rare that he’s not open.
