Pathetic decision

Athens retail community is probably not happy about the Athletic Association negotiating away the revenue they get from a home game weekend, and instead sending it to Atlanta.

If the game were to be played home and away, it wouldn't go back to Jacksonville; both fan bases would demand it. They know that and $$$$'s is why it is Atlanta and Tampa. Seems like a premature decision given we don't know what the scheduling model is going to look like after 2025. Either way, I was done with Jacksonville a long time ago. Jacksonville hotels fleece the Georgia fans. I hear some parking lots are charging $120 a car on gameday to park. I paid $35 to park at Alabama and $25 to park at Texas by contrast. There is nothing like going to Athens for a game and other campuses to watch the Dawgs win. Too bad we won't be able to do it at the Swamp in Florida.

(Yesterday, 08:08 AM)Replying to redpantsdawg Have you ever booked a hotel room in Athens for a game weekend? Athens hotels redefine the term "fleecing". I have never paid more than $30 to park in Jacksonville for the game. Georgia/Floriday in Jacksonville is a great tradition and a great time for the fans. It is like a bowl game in the middle of the season with the added benefit of being a huge rivalry game.

[/quote] Nope, I can drive to Athens just like the Gators do for Jacksonville. If you like taking away a chance every other year to showcase our program on our home turf against our biggest SEC rival in the name of tradition and because you have a great time, then the announcement should make you happy. For me, I see a home game against Florida would be more fun and a better the atmosphere than all our other home games. I would also like to see us get revenge on the Gators in the Swamp for what they did to us in 1995 in Athens. |
