Varsity is overrated, IMO.  Sure, it has charm and tradition, but frankly, the food sucks.

That said, I agree that it's sad that they sold to a developer, but money talks.

Their Frosty Orange and Onion Rings were my 2 favorite Varsity items.

Most other things I tried were just okay when I tried them, nothing to write home about.

Pimento cheeseburger, onion rings and an FO was always my go to order. Food wasn't great but it was good enough and I went for the "experience" as much as anything.
