(01-23-2025, 11:10 AM)Replying to JC-DAWG83 When I see a player go from a P4 program to a G5 program I have to wonder if they have come to the realization they are not a top tier college player and will never be in the NFL?  A lot of players who go into the portal get left out in the cold.  I wonder how many realize they really screwed up when that last day they can be signed goes by and they are sitting at home?

I agree, but in this case, I think he's better than whatever else they had behind Kneecapah Mafah

I think you are probably correct unless he was a total bust in practice or was far too dumb to stay in school.  I wasn't addressing his ability as much as I was commenting on the general issue of players going into the portal and stepping down to G5 or don't get picked up anywhere.

I'm sure all these kids think they are the next great thing when they are in HS.  The step up to college football is a HUGE step up.

I was just talking about Paul and you were too busy throwing dirt on CFB like always.  He looked better in his limited time in '23 than the taters back ups last year.

If you like the direction CFB is going, good for you.  I don't.

I don't love it...maybe the new shortened portal window and proposed revenue sharing stuff that they will go over in the summer will fix some things.  I'm not confident. though

Unless they drastically change NIL rules (which they won't/can't because players would file lawsuits) and limit transfers (which they won't because a judge has already ruled players have the right to unlimited transfers) adding the revenue sharing money will only make college players MORE professional athletes and the shorter portal window will simply make the portal window a madhouse.

The only solution is to make players have to be admitted to the colleges through regular admission channels before they can "try out" for the football teams and get scholarships and NIL/revenue sharing money.  This won't happen either.

well, not all portal activity is a bad thing for players that legitimately aren't getting a chance at once place but may get it elsewhere and kids were getting paid before the NIL.

Like I said before; if you like the way things are and the direction they are going, I guess that is good for you.  I don't like it and if I want to watch pro football (I don't), I can watch the NFL and see better play.
