Kirby Smart Getting Praised For Carson Beck Decision Amid New Development
Story by Kevin Borba

When it comes to contending for a title in college football, it is nearly impossible to do so without an elite quarterback at the helm.

It's not a secret either, as teams across the country are paying top dollar to retain their own or forking over jaw-dropping offers to lure one to their respective program via the NCAA Transfer Portal. One team that didn't do either of those things was the Georgia Bulldogs.

The Bulldogs saw a departure from two-year starter Carson Beck, who transferred to Miami after leading Georgia to a SEC title and College Football Playoff appearance in 2024. They also didn't make a move for a portal quarterback after.

Although many initially questioned why head coach Kirby Smart didn't fight harder to bring back Beck, there seems to be more clarity and support of his decision after Beck's recent personal drama. There have been some unflattering rumors regarding how Beck's relationship with Miami basketball star Hanna Cavinder ended, and along with a slew of fans, college football insider Barrett Sallee is convinced Smart made the right choice.

"Beck was mid and probably a locker room problem anyway. Let him go chase money while Georgia reloads and goes to try and make a run," wrote one fan.

"No kidding. Beck is a perfect example of a casualty of NIL. He was more concerned about his cars and his girlfriend last year than being UGA QB," added another.

"I wonder what/if that meeting was like. Kirby prolly wasn't gonna invest one more year in that chunk of nil," said another.

"It's definitely the best move so far," commented another fan.

"I'm with Kirby, if you don't want to be a Dawg, hit the bricks," wrote one user.

"Kirby was probably jumping for joy when he heard how much Miami offered Beck," wrote another.

It is also worth noting that Miami will be paying Beck a reported $4 million in NIL money. So in addition to recovering from a serious elbow injury that currently has him unable to throw, coming off a season that saw him throw twice as many picks as the year prior, he is also becoming quite the distraction off the field.

There is still plenty of time between now and Miami's Week 1 game against Notre Dame on Aug. 31, but the Beck experience has been far from smooth sailing.

Yeah, and his name is Smart, et al.

I doubt Kirby ever thinks about Beck.
