You folks win

4sure, TDK, and I were hoping making the board pay only would encourage non-paying folks that have posted for years to finally start helping out but boy was I wrong. In addition we have about 36 memberships due this month and a whopping six people have renewed. So I will probably turn off the pay to post feature soon. Paying members will still not see any ads and I may create a special forum and keep a few features just for those folks. But the last few years donations have kept dropping and as I get close to retirement I don't have the money to keep paying out of pocket so folks can talk sports. I've already paid for this year so we are good through December. After that who knows.

I'm not sure how we "win". Thanks for all you've done. If you've already paid for the year, I'd suggest keeping those that don't pay from being able to post. By letting them post without paying THEY win imo. If there aren't enough paying members to keep the board going, let it go when this year ends. You have no obligation to make sure everyone here has a forum to talk sports, food, travel, etc. at your expense.

I have enjoyed this forum and will miss it when it is gone but there is no reason for anyone to expect you to shoulder the entire burden or to even make up the difference between what is paid and what is needed. Again; thanks for all the work you've done, you have certainly gone well above and beyond what most men would do.

Well said JC.  Agree.

IMO and I might be wrong here but I think folks would be more likely to spend more time and prolly money on the site if it was as it used to be where most topics were allowed on on board and not split.

Freeposting likely means the return of the trolls. I do not look forward to having a few of the dumbass trolls return.... the same trolls that for some reason were allowed to exist and foul up the board in the past. My hope is that the new mods have a more painful knifebanstick than what we have seen previously.

There are much livelier places for discussing dawgs ball than here. This place was about community. That was the draw. That's why we are still here.

I don’t mean this to sound snarky but how many paying members are there and how many thousands of dollars every month does this forum cost? I was apparently under a false impression that going to this new setup was going to save time (yours) and making it pay was supposed to be where we didn’t have to care what Yahoo or Google thought and have just one board. Wasn’t that why we split the board to start with?
And if this stuff is going the way of the dinosaur what is On3, Rivals, etc doing that we’re not besides providing stories and interviews and ‘insider’ information? How does this become viable, or was this rebellion just a pipe dream?

I’m admittedly not the sharpest knife in the drawer when it comes to this sort of thing, but, as you’re describing it, there’s a lot of selfish, cheap ass, and inconsiderate “fans” on here that are openly and knowingly letting Todd foot the bill for them and not paying a nickel?!?!  And then, when things don’t go their way, they bitch and cry about things not being fair when all along, THEY are the problem.
Why don’t you cheap asses expose yourselves?  Tell us who you are and why you won’t, or can’t, pay?  I mean, didn’t Todd even set it up where some people who couldn’t afford it would get a “scholarship”?
You know, where I work, if we have someone that knowingly benefits from the things that others pay into for the enjoyment of all others and they never contribute, we call them freeloaders and don’t take them too kindly.  Can’t do that here because Todd has been especially kind to y’all by not exposing you, and, once again, you’ve taken advantage of his generosity.

JC is right and bNe is righter. Open up all topics and see how it goes. I would expect it'll get more engagement and $.

I was thinking that was the idea as well...

Well you have the balance of no posting and loss of energy with Commie Freeloaders bringing a lot of post we all pay to see. I like seeing as many different posters as we can and am willing to pay as needed especially since I am getting a free site that garnered over 300K views on the old site and is approaching 100 views on each post with this new site.

Hope opening it up will make it more lively. Site sure means a lot to me hate to see it go.
