Listening to 680 yesterday about the Falcon's QB situation...

What a mess!!!   Appears the choices are:

1.  Trade for Justin Fields and pay him $40M+ per season on a 4-5 yr contract.   (likely will cost at least a 2/3rd pic)
2.  Sign ole' Bakey Mayfield for ~$20M+ per yer to a 3-4 yr deal.
3.  Trade up in the draft to get one of the top 3.
4.  Draft Pennix later in the 1st rd.
5.  Sign a total scrap heap retread like Wentz.

I don't really like any of those options.  At this point, I think I start the total rebuild and trade up for one of the top 3.  I like Daniels the best of the group...but, you'd have to hope you could bulk him up a little.   Doesn't seem to have the body for the NFL, yet.

I don't like Williams at all and I think Maye could be awesome...or, he could be another Zack Wilson.

Glad I'm not making the decision.

I'm pretty sure Fields has 1 year plus an option year left on his current contract at much left than the figures you quote.

I like the idea of Baker for 2-3 years myself if he would take it.

You would be correct on Fields.  But, the argument is...why would you trade a fairly high round pick for him if you only planned to have him for a year?

Now, my argument would be...losing a 2nd rd pick is better than signing up to 4-5 yrs of $45M and THEN finding out you didn't have THE guy.  But, IF he is THE guy...doubt the Falcons could afford to resign him after the 1st year.

I don't really like the Fields play because I simply don't think he's good NFL QB...yet anyway.

Justine Fields could not beat out Jake Fromm because he didn't learn to read defenses or get past his first progression before he ran.  Ohio State's offense did little to teach him to read defenses.  The Bears have done little as well.  If the Falcons are stupid enough to trade for him they will be looking for a new QB, GM, and head coach in a couple of years.

RedPants is correct. Fields had a better arm, was faster, stronger, and bigger than Fromm. Fromm could read a defense and make correct decisions.

Fields did great at Ohio State.  Every highlight I saw of him, he had a deep pocket, plenty of time to throw, and was throwing to a wide open receiver.  That's really just no way to prepare for life in the NFL at a doormat franchise.  He is laughing all the way to the bank, but my guess is he's not going to get $30 million per year at his next gig.

I'd love to get Mayfield, but I have a feeling the Fallkins will be to cheap to pay veteran QB rates.

So basically sounds like the Falcons will be looking for a new coach in three years.

Everyone knows you can win a Championship with a walk-on QB but it really helps if you have a great defense and good O-line. 8th pick should be the best defender available. Sign a decent QB for a year or two and draft one in the later rounds - Michael Pratt or similar. That's my $.02

Wilson and Cousins have been talked up big time also on what I’ve heard.

The Boys tired of Dak?  I would think he makes too much..

Actually, you bring up a good point and I totally forgot the mention of Cousins.  He WAS talked about a ton.  His price is similar to Fields...maybe more...but, I would probably pay it for him.

I wouldn't give you much for Wilson or Prescott.   But, they're both light years better than what they have now.

Thanks for getting me straight!!

no problem- i can help you with the whole story and not just the negative side lol

BTW All 3 of those QBs are way better than the ones you mentioned.

Cousins is the top free agent QB. He wants 90 million for 2 years to stay in Minnesota - but that is the Minnesota price. Not the price for other teams.
Rumors from former teammates that Wilson is likely headed to atlanta and i am just peachy if it works out that way. I mean he is a super BOWL winner - not that it means much to ya apparently lol.

Wilson has 2 or so years left in the tank. Affords the falcons to take a QB in the mid rounds and see if he pans out. Meanwhile the 8 pick can be used on a pass rusher and either turner or latu should be available at 8.

Hey, I’m just spouting of takes on a message board.   Honestly, you know more and have watched more NFL than me.     Your thought above sounds very reasonable.   I really like the idea of not tying up big cash for an extended period.    Apologies for the negative vibe.    I’ve just been let down one too many times by this team.
