Guy I know was a GHSA ref for many years, quit a couple years ago because of the ghetto thug parents, fans and players.  He said it was too dangerous going to "urban" games because the fans, coaches, players and parents were so violent if there was a call they didn't agree with.  The referees aren't paid much at all and the cost and time commitment wasn't worth the amount they are paid on top of having to deal with the thugs.

GHSA has a huge problem with recruiting and retaining referees.  If you look, you will notice almost all of them are older.  People are sick of the "culture" and are not going to willingly subject themselves to it.

All this

I think some counties are playing games on Thursdays and Saturdays so they can field enough refs

All JV games in the state, I’m told, have moved to Monday nights.  I know Dunwoody plays all of their JV games on Monday nights.

Also, we played Lithonia on Monday night this week and the parents of Lithonia players were screaming at the corches to put in #whatever, and #whatever. It was all I could take, as a volunteer soccer coach, to hold back telling them I’m sure the coaches would gladly accept help if they want to attend practice every night and put in the time to corch they kids.

My BIL started reffing games about seven years ago for GHSA..said F’it this this year. He runs activities for Ft Gordon and Clark’s Hill. Told him he could do whatever he wants as long as I keep my free boat slip for for my duck boat.
