Growing Buzz about the Backfield
#1
Georgia has made it abundantly clear that the run game is the focus of both the offense and the defense this offseason.  Nate Frazier, Josh McCray, and Dwight Phillips Jr. all scored in the Saturday scrimmage, and Dillon Bell even got in on the fun with a productive end-around. The Bulldogs have shown this camp that there's power in numbers, which bodes well given what awaits them this season. Frazier established himself last season, and he's done what he's needed to prepare for another season. Roderick Robinson flashed during Georgia's first scrimmage, McCray is getting up to speed after being limited early, and Chauncey Bowens has taken a step forward in his game. Cash Jones remains a factor on the ground, and Phillips' touchdown only added to what's been a strong stretch for the sophomore. Freshman Bo Walker has been hell on wheels as well, and it seems like he'll have a role in some form or fashion. It's fair to wonder what the snap counts will look like among the running backs, but it's more important to keep the wear and tear of a season in mind. The chances of Georgia making it through a long season without losing a single back is extremely low, and the last few years have demonstrated why having several capable ball carriers is never a bad thing.

Good write up. Bowens has come on in the last two weeks. It’s a real battle now for no 2 behind Frazier. Bo could be no 1 before this season is over.

RR looks like Tarzan. McCray is still getting used to SEC football.

Phillips has been a surprise and has added some good weight. He will play a lot and likely eat into Cash’s time.

As your write up says, best we’ve been in a long time from a talent and health perspective.

I'd sure like to see RR do something. The scant few times he has been healthy, he looked like he could be a great RB. Frazier HAS to improve on ball security or he is going to be one of those RBs who ended up being a failure at the college level.

Word is, McCray may not be a Georgia or SEC level back. He has really struggled with the heat and the general level of competition at Georgia. Georgia football is a completely different animal than Illinois football.

Bowens and Walker are going to be good ones if they stay healthy.

We are due for some luck in the injury department. It seems like injuries have particularly plagued us the last couple of years at RB.

Right on all counts JC.  I’m in the “show me” phase on RR

I'm taking the wait and see approach. The OL is key (obviously).
