ATHENS, Ga. --- Somto Cyril's career-high double-double of 15 points and 15 rebounds led the No. 23-ranked Georgia Bulldogs (11-1) to a 103-74 win over West Georgia (6-6) before a sellout crowd at Stegeman Coliseum on Monday afternoon. Georgia is leading the nation in scoring offense at 99.8 points per game. That will be the highest average by a Division I men's basketball team on Christmas in nine years, since The Citadel was averaging 103.2 ppg in 2016. Blue Cain led six Bulldogs in double figures against the Wolves with 20 points, followed by Jeremiah Wilkinson with 19, Cyril with 15, Marcus "Smurf" Millender with 12 and Jordan Ross and Kareem Stagg both with 10. Georgia plays its third contest of a four-game homestand next Monday (Dec. 29) when the Bulldogs host Long Island at 7:00 p.m. ET.
ATHENS, Ga. — The University of Georgia Athletic Association executive committee unanimously approved an adjustment to the current contract of J. Reid Parker Director of Athletics Josh Brooks. The vote took place Monday afternoon via teleconference. Brooks' contract has been extended an additional year to 2031, with a base salary annual increase of $125,000 per year. His six-year average yearly compensation, not including incentives, moves from $1.525 million to $1.750 million. Other adjustments include increased goal-based incentives for student-athlete academic performance and final Learfield Directors Cup standings. After tying the school record with four national titles this past spring, Georgia Athletics continues to thrive under Brooks' leadership. In addition to national championships in women's tennis, women's track and equestrian, Georgia football earned back-to-back SEC crowns for the first time since 1980, the Bulldog basketball programs set a new school mark with a 24-1 combined record to start the season, baseball compiled 86 wins and earned a top-8 national seed in each of the last two years, soccer made the NCAA tournament in four-straight seasons for the first time in program history, and men's cross country made the NCAA championships for the first time in 12 years.
