The Broyles Award committee recently shared their appreciation for the veteran coach, and on Monday, so did his boss. Kirby Smart praised Bobo for the work he's done with the Georgia offense in 2025. Smart pointed out everything the Bulldogs lost this offseason, which included their starting quarterback, four offensive linemen who landed on NFL rushers, a top-tier running back in Trevor Etienne, and the team's two leading receivers.
"I think he's done a tremendous job. I think he would give a lot of credit to his staff," Smart said. "What he's done with our offense where we're not a stat-padded, you know, hurry-up, take a lot of snaps, get a lot of plays. I mean, he doesn't chase numbers. Look at what they've done in the red area. It's been incredible. The ability to run the ball has been really, really [good]."
Bobo is now in the third season of his second stint as Georgia offensive coordinator. The Bulldogs' offense has thrived this season and sits 33rd nationally in scoring offense, 31st in rushing offense, 45th in total offense, and 2nd in red-zone touchdown percentage.
Bobo was named a Broyles Award finalist on Dec. 9. He stands alongside Indiana defensive coordinator Bryant Haines, Miami defensive coordinator Corey Hetherman, Ohio State defensive coordinator Matt Patricia, and Texas Tech defensive coordinator Shiel Wood. The award winner will be announced on Feb. 12.
Smart gave Bobo credit for how the offense has operated because Bobo puts the game plan together and has to decide what's included and what is ultimately called. Given all the factors at play, Smart sounded pleased with the job his play-caller has done.
"He's done that with a really tough schedule and two freshman O-linemen and a lot of o-linemen out that have been injured," Smart said. "I'm really pleased and proud of what he's done."
