has been invited to play for the Georgia National Team in the GEICO High School Baseball National Championship tournament in Omaha, Nebraska.
Atkins is the 2nd highly touted pitcher to come out of Rockmart in recent years, Tyson Floyd being the other (went to LSU and is a 1st round draft pick with the Cincinnati Reds), which I don't think we've had any notable baseball players to come out of Rockmart before them.

I sure hope our baseball is better than last years. I had to turn off a ton of games because it was so damn painful to watch. The guys were playing like
a HIGH school baseball team and sometimes less. Seemed like we were just mailing it in as far as coaching goes. Poor situational baseball like bad base running and bunting in bad situations or swinging away when we should just be a little patient. Great example 2 outs runners on 2nd and 3rd batter has 3 balls 0 strikes and just swings away wildly at anything.
I would really like to see us reach our potential in baseball.

Yeah, I hope so, too. One would think, with the new manager coming in from the LSU program, which just won the national championship... AND, he was their pitching coach... that would give one some glimmer of hope.. at least?
I would also like to see us get back up to where we were when Perno was managing. We were in multiple CWS's during his time.

Good for Rockmart and that kid. Cobb County and Marietta have turned them out like crazy for years. Not really sure why East Cobb is the mecca of Georgia baseball.

Same. We had 2 great years since Perno left. That's not even close to being near our ceiling.

Team is short on proven, experienced pitching. Does that sound promising?

These kids from Rockmart that are getting attention are playing in those Cobb County summer leagues. I'm with you... not sure what it is about East Cobb and baseball... but they churn out some talent.

No, not yet it doesn't. But I think with this guy our pitching will get better (I hope).
