My father in law used to bury money in his back yard, hide it inside his truck doors, and even hide it in his freezer. He did NOT trust banks. We finally got him to use the local bank where he lived his last 6-8 years. He never borrowed money. Paid cash for everythings.

my Dad was a lot like that.
I got ready to buy my first house and he said 'Don't let the bank own you, save up and build it'
BTW, 25 Million won't even cover Kirby's secret salary.

The "save up and build it" option went out the window a while back. Unless you want to live in a tiny house, it really isn't realistic for someone to save up enough money to buy a piece of land and then pay out of pocket to build a house, even a small house, on it today.
I guess if you had some land given to you and you lived with your parents or someone else who wouldn't charge you any rent for ten years or so and you saved at least $1000 a month and had the time and knowledge to contract the construction of a house yourself, you might be able to save up and build a house.

Our youngest son saved up enough to build a 250k house 4 years ago and only borrowed 80k at 2 1/8%. But, I gave him an acre of land to build on. We have 2 sons and are very proud of both. Our youngest gave me the most trouble as a teenager, but has come a long way as a man.

That is impressive. I don't know what the land would have sold for, but he would have still been in good shape if he had had to buy the land. How long did it take him to save up the $170,000?
I know of many instances where the kid who was the biggest handful growing up turns things around once they are an adult and become great people. My wife was a HS guidance counselor, so she heard many stories about kids who weren't exactly what the parents wanted at the moment. My wife's advice to the parents was to be patient and not let the child make any "permanent mistakes" while they were young. She said the biggest permanent mistakes were hard drugs, jail and babies. If the kids avoided the permanent mistakes, they had about a 90% chance of turning out fine.
I hear about how young people cannot afford to buy houses. I think what these young people really mean is, they can't afford to buy the house they want and aren't willing to start out with a smaller house that is not in the most exclusive area of town. There is a young man at our tailgate who is single and is a nice guy with a good job making around $75K a year. He is single, in his late 20s and he talked several times about how he couldn't find a house he could afford. As we talked, he talked about the areas and houses he was interested in. These houses were all $500K+. He claimed that his parents and my generations have ruined the housing market for young people. When I told him he needed to be looking for a first home priced under $300K, he told me he didn't want to live in any of those neighborhoods or those houses.
