Upon reviewing my series, I reached a conflict on Natural vs. Historic. While the Historic offers so many interesting tangents in the area town or county of the wonder, it is hard to list them as separate actual Natural Wonders. Apologies to ya’ll cataloguing the series but I am doing a top 100 edit. Several have made suggestions of wonders and I was under pressure to list them in the top 100. Now with my edit, I officially deemed my 100 post to actually only cover 89 Georgia Natural Wonders.
I can squeeze a few more in the top 100.This will henceforth be the revised tweaked latest version of my GNW series
1. Longswamp Valley Marble Vein
2. Radium Springs
3. Jekyll Island Forest
4. Warm Springs
5. Providence Canyon
6. Tallulah Gorge
7. Stone Mountain
8. Okefenokee Swamp
9. Amicalola Falls
10. Cloudland Canyon
11. Pigeon Mountain
13. Tray Mountain
14. Mt. Yonah
15. Cumberland Island
16. Chattooga River Section 0 - I
17. Chattooga River Section II - III
18. Chattooga River Section IV
I leave the Chattooga as three wonders because each section is diverse and good enough to be separate Wonders.
19. Toccoa Falls
20. Brasstown Bald
21. Jacks River Falls Trail
22. Rock City
23. High Falls
24. Sapelo Island
25. Tallulah Basin
26. Gray's Reef National Marine Sanctuary
27. Richard Russell Hwy – Dukes Creek Falls – Raven Cliff Falls
28. Islands of McIntosh County.(Part 1) - Wolf - Butler - Rhetts
---. Islands of McIntosh County (Part 2) - Champney & General's Islands - Darien
29. Islands of McIntosh County (Part 3) - Queens & Blackbeard Islands - Harris Neck
There were several McIntosh Islands covered including Wolf in one post and Black Beard in another. The middle post was two marsh duck hunting islands and a lot of history. This is the first cut from three wonders to two.
30. Falls on Emory Creek
31. St. Catherines Island
32. Mill Creek Falls
33. Coast of Liberty County (Part 1) - Colonial
---. Coast of Liberty County (Part 2) - Revolutionary War
Lot of history in both post on Liberty County, but beautiful coastal sites covered too. Really should count as only one Natural Wonder as a whole. Our second cut.
34. Fort Mountain
35. Ossabaw Island
36. Moccasin Creek Falls
37. Bryan County Shore (Part 1) - Antebellum
---. Bryan County Shore (Part 2) - Henry Ford
Combining these two as one post almost all a history of Henry Ford. Our third reduction.
38. Amicalola Creek
39. Thunderbolt - Isle of Hope - Wormsloe
40. Skidaway Island
41. Lake Rabun Area
42. Wassaw Island
43. Waters Creek – Blood Mountain Falls
44. Little Tybee, Williamson, and Cabbage Islands
45. Talking Rock Creek
46. Tybee Island & Approach Islands (Part 1)
47. Tybee Island (Part 2)
Am going to leave this as two because a lot went into Cockspur and the approach islands to Tybee in first post. Detailed separation North of Island and South of Island. Leaving this as two.
48. Big Hammock Natural Area
49. Camp E.F. Boyd Natural Area - Ohoopee Dunes Natural Area – Swainsboro – Ohoopee River
50. Cason J. Calloway Memorial Forest – Calloway Gardens
51. Ebenezer Creek Swamp
52. Heggie's Rock – Columbia County
53. Lewis Island Tract – Altamaha River
54. Marshall Forest – Rome
55. Panola Mountain – South River
56. Wade Tract Preserve – Thomasville
57. Augusta Canal
58. Savannah River Rapids - Augusta Georgia (Part 1)
---. Augusta Georgia (Part 2)
OK this was tricky because I went to Augusta because the Canal was a National Natural Heritage Site. Even though it is not natural, the canal counts as a wonder and of course the fall line rapids count as another wonder. The third post is all history and thus our 4th cut from 3 to 2.
59. Chattahoochee River Whitewater – Columbus (Part 1)
---. Columbus Georgia (Part 2)
This is all about the Natural Wonder of the newly discovered whitewater rafting in Columbus on one post, and a history of Columbus with the 2nd post. Combining this as one natural wonder. Our 5th cut.
60. St. Simons Island
61. Little St. Simons Island
62. Sea Island
63. Brunswick
64. Oconee River Rapids – Milledgeville (Part 1)
---. Milledgeville (Part 2)
Our 6th cut, Whitewater rafting on the Oconee as a wonder, history of Milledgeville as a tangent.
65. Ocmulgee River Rapids
66. Macon (Part 1) - Bond Swamp - Ocmulgee Indian Mounds
---. Macon (Part 2) - Ocmulgee River - Antebellum
---. Macon (Part 3) - Rose Hill Cemetery
OK I went overboard on Macon with four posts. The first one was about the Natural Wonder of Ocmulgee River whitewater, and the second post covered the Bond Swamp and Indian Mounds so I am going to credit Macon with two top 100 Georgia Natural Wonders, but I am reducing the top 100 list by another two entries 7th and 8th.
67. Flint River Rapids – Spruwell Bluff – Thomaston
68. Rabun Bald – Bartram Trail
69. Dick's Knob
70. Hightower Bald
71. Unnamed Peak on Wolfpen Ridge - Union County
72. Unnamed Peak on Grassy Ridge - Rabun County
73. Slaughter Mountain
74. Double Spring Knob (Kelly Knob) – Towns County
75. Coosa Bald
76. Cartecay River – Gilmer County (Part 1)
---. Ellijay - Gilmer County (Part 2)
The river one day, history another. One more deduction, our 9th.
77. Upper Chattahoochee River – White County (Part 1)
--- White County (Part 2)
The river was the wonder, the history of White County a tangent. Our 10th cut.
78. Mossy Creek
79. Clear Creek
80. North High Shoals – Oconee County
81. Zahnd Tract – Summerville –Paradise Garden
82. Boggs Creek
83. Arabia Mountain – DeKalb County
84. Panther Creek Falls – Habersham County (Part 1)
---. Cornelia - Habersham County (Part 2)
Our last cut for #11. The Panther Creek Falls were a Natural Wonder but the Johnny Mize and Elvis museums were not.
85. Panther Creek Falls – Cohutta Wilderness
86. Jones Creek Falls
87. Lake Seed & Lake Burton area –Wildcat Creek
88. Chestatee River – Copper Mine
89. Black Rock Mountain State Park
So we really have covered only 89 Georgia Natural Wonders and we get to do another last ten of the top 100 countdown starting Monday. Even though Georgia not playing weekends any more, I am taking two days off to renumber everything.
GNW Gals working on the Edit.
Today’s GNW gal upset that we have to redo all the numbers. If anyone feels we should leave it alone, here is your chance to chime in. Also a chance to recommend future sites. Someone has already mentioned Lake Lula, George L. Smith State Park, Burnside island.
