Drop men's basketball as a varsity sport, change my mind

It’s borderline embarrassing. Still think we are WAY better than we have been. But damn, sooner or later you have to accidentally win a big one. We’ve lost 3 games that looked like we were trying to lose them.

It's the same thing every season no matter who the coach is.  Since 1932 we have played 2,753 games and are 115 games over .500.  We have one regular season SEC championship and two SEC tournament championships.  We have only made the NCAA tournament 12 times, only once before the tournament expanded to 64 teams, and have a 7-12 record.  Hugh Durham has the highest winning percentage since SEC play started at a whopping .580, Mark Fox is second at .551.  Since 2014-15 season we have 63 conference wins.

Every new coach elicits the same hope; "team is playing harder", "team looks much better", "_________ needs a couple guys who can score and we can compete with anyone", etc..  Three years in and it is always the same thing, "coach is terrible, need a new direction".

We are the basketball equivalent of SCu football without the Spurrier years.

They could either turnover Stegeman Coliseum to the livestock judging team, or wait 'til 2025 for Dominque's son to rescue program.

I would be happy if the Hoop Dawgs just stayed in the middle of the conference. Nobody really notice them then.

We are a million times better than we were with Fox and Crean.

Tubby and Harrick won here.

Hugh Durham did well, too.

You want to leave the SEC?  I'm pretty sure we can't be a member without fielding a mens hoops team.

If that is the case, divert all scholarships from basketball to baseball so our baseball team can be better.  Let men's varsity basketball be a pure walk on sport.

It wouldn't change the Title IX ratio of mens:womens scholarships and I don't know how the SEC could mandate that our basketball players be on scholarship.  As long as we fielded a varsity men's basketball team we would technically be in compliance with the SEC rules.  I don't know what rule it would violate.

I'd love to see us have an all walk on men's varsity basketball team with some PE teacher as the coach.  We would get absolutely killed in every game but we would have to be crowd favorites and national heroes.  If a team lost to us their fans would demand their coach be fired immediately.

What a weird fantasy.

I didn't "want" Beck to leave, I just wasn't in a panic over him leaving like some were.
