In 1962, the Florida Gators were 5-4 at the end of the regular season and were picked to play #9 Penn State in the Gator Bowl. The Nittany Lions from Pennsylvania were quite offended that they were forced to play such a lowly opponent and made their feelings about the bowl and the opponent known. So what do the Gators do? They put Confederate flags on the side of their helmets and promptly kicked Penn State's ass to the tune of 17-7.
