Laken Riley update...
#1
For those of you following the ongoing Laken Riley tragedy, it still has much of the Athens community in an uproar.  UGA parents as well.  I won't offer any details here and I can't post in the lounge.  But, I would encourage folks here who love UGA to stay close to the facts of this investigation.

I will simply say, as a UGA grad, and UGA parent (Twice), this make my blood boil.  Can't imagine what her family is going through.

Our Govnah seems to have manned up on this issue as well. Having a daughter at UGA, he seemed highly impacted by this event.

I saw an interview with him where one media person asked whether or not the perpetrator would be deported. Kemp quickly replied something along the lines of, "Oh, he's not going anywhere." He reiterated that he will be prosecuted under state law.

Agreed. If ever there was a time to 'sack up' & give more than a bland talking point THIS is it.
The Mayor of Athens and the UGA President who tried to hire the 2 brothers needs to be called down on the carpet as well.
This is a failure of leadership, imo.

As someone that lives in a region that is a big draw to some people due to the horse racing industry, I have seen this type of thing numerous times over the last few decades...DUI deaths, murder, rape, gang activity... often involving free range citizens. Tragic.

Co-worker asked earlier if I was following it and pointed out an outside DA was being brought in to prosecute.  Seems there was some truth to comments made on here a few days ago.

I read earlier she has never prosecuted a case where the defendant was found guilty.  Don’t know, but that is what I read.

This hits very close to home for me and my family.  "Dad, I'm okay.  A girl got murdered on campus today but I'm okay so don't worry when you hear about it".

Our daughter is a couple of months away from graduating from UGA.  She did not know Laken but one of her roommates was a sorority sister with Laken and knew her.  My daughter and Laken share a physical resemblance that sent a chill thru me when I saw her picture.  My daughter has walked her dog many times at Lake Herrick, got her nails done across the street from the criminal's apartment, and had pumped gas at the Chevron where the cops were digging in the dumpster.  This could have been her under different circumstances.

Unfortunately, this murder does not surprise me.  It was only a matter of time.  When she lived in downtown little was done about the bums that frequently hung around her apartment complex.  A couple of times she and her friends were followed to and from her building.  The cops were called and ran them off but they came back.  One night a guy got mugged behind her complex.  In response, I got her a pistol, I trained her and paid for her "professional" training.

When her lease ended we moved her from downtown into the suburbs.  She drives to campus.  While I feel the campus is mostly safe, the areas that border UGA are not.  I have often cautioned her about being very careful of her surroundings when parking on the surface parking lots that border the campus line.  A few months ago, she got something to eat off West Hancock, got in her car, locked the door, and there was a guy standing by her car.  She was on the phone with her mother.  My wife told her to yell at the guy to get away, lay on her horn to attract attention, and if he tried to block the car, run his ass over.  He left.

The simple truth is the Communists want illegal aliens to come here so they can get citizenship and vote for them in the future.  The Republicans want illegals here for cheap labor for their corporate donors.  We the public are pawns caught in the middle.  As I told her when she came home for the weekend, you cannot depend on the legal system, cops, 911, the UGA app, or anyone else to protect her.  She must be able to defend herself.  And that should be the biggest lesson learned from Laken’s death for all the current and future students.
