Georgia Natural Wonder #161 - Vineyard Mountain - Bartow County Peaks

I keep finding mountain peaks in Bartow County but there is not much information on most of them. They don't even have a Wikipedia page. There are 40 mountains over 1000 feet in Bartow County Georgia. Now there is several images and All Trails has some commentary for Vineyard Mountain. So we will feature that for the most part today. But like the Islands of McIntosh County, I am going to lump the remaining mountains over 1000 feet into this single wonder to help move us out of Bartow County. I may visit each mountain one day if we are still looking for wonders.

Pine Mountain (Cartersville)

We have covered the three highest peaks of Bartow County with earlier post. We touched on #1 Hanging Mountain and #2 Little Pine Log Mountain in our last post GNW #160. We hiked #3 Pine Mountain with GNW #157 .

There is another Sharp Top Mountain in Georgia, and that is in Pickens County close to Jasper.

Dogs are also able to use this trail but must be kept on leash.

From the reviews:

Not recommended for beginners. this is a treacherous trail and would be great for training for AT. Hiking poles were a big help.

Top of mountain is kind of a let down since it’s just a phone tower, but good workout for me and the pup. Nice being next to lake.

Beautiful and challenging. Lots of hills.

I’d recommend this for experienced hikers and someone looking for a workout.

The view at the top isn’t anything special because of the tree coverage, but I found a nice spot near the top with a great view of the Allatoona Dam.

I’d definitely come back in late fall or winter for better views!

Collins Mountain

Collins Mountain Collins Mountain is the 26th tallest mountain in Bartow County Georgia and has an elevation of 1050 feet. Collins Mountain is situated northeast of Adairsville. I was drawn to Collins Mountain by these cool cave entrance pictures.

Photographer wrote "I've always thought the entrance to Yarbrough Cave is one of the most unique in Georgia. The cave is developed in carbonates of the Ordovician age Knox Group. There is a beautiful natural arch at the entrance. Seems like development around the mountain is quickly encroaching on it."
