Granted he is on the Mt Rushmore of Greatest SOBs who’ve ever lived, but this is wiping him and my MIL out. Got in his left eye and the pain is unbearable. Doc has been trying for 3 weeks to get the pain under control but cannot seem to find the right drugs. That is a bitch of a disease/virus. Coworker has it too and he said to imagine the worst sunburn you ever had and multiply it by 1000 to describe the pain. My grandfather had it and he said it was the worst pain he ever had. This included being shot by Japanese, hit by Chinese RPG in NK, and a major stroke. Glad I got vaccinated, I want no part of shingles

Prayers for your father in law. Gotta catch it early. Had shingles about 12 years ago but saw it right of the gate as it was on my lower back and dermatologist wrote antiviral for it. It went away before any pain so did not need any pain meds. Grandmother had it years and years ago and said it sure was really bad pain. I also got the vaccine a few years ago. Hope your FIL finds some pain relief.

You have to have 2 of them, spaced about 3 months apart. Maybe some needle insertion site pain or soreness. Some people (me included) felt lethargic for about a day.
Truly, absolutely, undeniably worth getting the vaccines.

The Shingles vax is one of the very few I've taken since a little kid. I watched too many friends and relatives suffer with that nasty stuff and wanted to make sure I did everything to avoid it.
