G Day observations and the looming portal...
#1
Well, life goes on and still posting with a heavy heart.

But, maybe a little football talk can get our minds away from the bad stuff.

One thing is for sure, G-Day went as scripted for Kirby.  ....a Tie.....

He handicapped the offense all day and helped the D look better.   Still, the Defense is a little better than I thought we'd be.

My thoughts:

- We are strong at WR....wow!!!  We can run 6-7 guys out there that are solid.  Size and speed...   Gonna be fun to watch teams try to cover us.  Just impossible.
- We will be better at RB in '24 than we were in '23.   That burst from ETN is something we've been lacking.
- We need a QB in the portal pretty desperately.  Stockton might be OK against some of the lesser teams, but, I'd hate to be in a situation where we had to rely on his passing to win a big game.  I had super high hopes for him.   But, I don't think he's a top tier SEC starter.  In fact, I'm going to predict he never starts at UGA...barring injury demanding it.  Didn't think I'd ever say that.
- We will still look hard in the portal for a DL.   But, a couple of the young guys are showing promise.
- KJ Bolden is better than I thought he would be...stud.
- WE are young but athletic in the secondary (minutes starks).  If we can get through Bama, we may be very solid there.
- Not sold on Truss as a starter...still.  But, he's serviceable.
- LBers are only lacking experience...freaks.

I watched the game but completely spaced on watching Bolden, frankly didn't know his jersey number anyway, but hearing he looked good and was physical on tackles.

Hoping Stockton can grow more, but he has been a here a while....might be close to his ceiling. I am confident the kid works his butt off

Bolden looked dang good and it will be hard to keep him off the field.

I don't think Stockton is going to significantly improve his arm.  What he brings to the table is more of a dual threat, kind of like Aaron Murray.  He'd be kind of like SBIV his 2020/2021 years (unlike most, he was able to significantly increase his accuracy and velocity with more experience on field and in the weight room).  I'd rather stick with the guy that's toughed it out than bring in someone from a Duke or Wake type program that's had the benefit of more playing time but against lesser competition.

Very!!!  We should NEVER "lose" a 1-2 yd situation with him.   240lbs with his speed??

Very, very fast team. Speed in spades. It's a tough schedule, but this team will be in the mix to win it all with an underrated defense.

Feel like the RBs ran harder than any we have in the past few years.  As much as I liked some of those guys, none reminded me of Chubb, who you had to gang tackle to take down.  These guys weren't going down easy.  Very refreshing.

Still hate that Beck misses on so many deep throws.  He made some good throws, but overthrew a lot of deep balls.  54% completion in the spring scrimmage game ain't exactly eye popping numbers.
