My gg grandfather founded Harlem. Andrew Sanders. Was a Confederate doctor in the CW. Story goes he was living north of Harlem in a town called Sawdust, iirc. Too much hell raising went on for him so he an another man bought the land for Harlem and gave a few acres for churches who wanted to move too. Nothing trickled down to me however.

Sawdust is still there.,there’s a historic marker. Sadly, I know the feeling, my GG owned pretty much all the land from Grovetown to Gordon Hwy on Newmantown Rd. The road was named after him. I’ve still got some acreage along with some cousins who still owns some of the original property. Between selling to developers, county ball parks, etc. it’s all gone. My great aunt just sold a tract of 22 acres for 1.3 mil for a new neighborhood. Between booze, gambling, ex wives, and owning racehorses, my great uncles spent most of it.
