Eighth-ranked University of Georgia received the No. 7 national seed to the 2024 NCAA Baseball Championships and will be the top seed in the Athens (Ga.) Regional, May 31-June 3, it was announced Monday. Georgia will be making is 14th NCAA Regional appearance and first since 2022. The Bulldogs (39-15) will open against Army (31-21), on Friday at 1 p.m. ET at Foley Field. UNC-Wilmington (39-19) is the No. 2 seed here and will face No. 3 seed Georgia Tech (31-23) here Friday at 7 p.m. The Bulldogs are 51-34 all-time in 13 NCAA regional appearances. Georgia has won six regional titles, four super regional championships and made six trips to the College World Series. The Bulldogs claimed the 1990 national title and reached the CWS Finals in 2008. Georgia will be playing host to a regional for the first time since 2019 when it went 2-2 and lost in the finals to Florida State. Georgia is a top eight national seed for the sixth time in school history.This will be the first meeting between Georgia and Army. Georgia is 2-1 all-time against UNC Wilmington, the last meetings coming during the 2004 regular season in Athens. The Bulldogs went 2-0 against Tech this year and lead the series 220-169-2 dating to 1898.
Over two days of competition, the Lady Bulldogs compiled 14 qualifications from 14 athletes at the NCAA East Prelims in Lexington Kentucky. In total, eight Bulldog men qualified for the NCAA Championships across seven events. The eighth-ranked women's squad and the 15th-ranked men's team will be represented by a combined 22 athletes. Georgia's men's and women's track and field teams will conclude the 2024 season at the NCAA Outdoor Championships in Eugene, Ore., from June 5-8. The site will also play host to the U.S. Olympic Trials later that month, which will run from June 21-30 at the Hayward Field facility.
