Enjoying Hilton Head this week earlier than usual
#1
Not as crowded as I expected and not as hot as July. Very nice
So the coast guard chopper flies by each day and my daughter asked yesterday what they are doing on these flights - anyone know?  They are a couple of hundred feet in the air, hugging the coast. Flying south. Door wide open and the dude is waving as the go by. About 30-60
Minutes later they come back. Are these training missions for the pilots?  Joy rides to test the choppers?  I assume there is a purpose.  HOTD know?

Pilots and crews probably need hours of flight time and flying along the beach looking at the scenery is more exciting than looking at trees in the lowcountry.

Locals as in local law enforcement, I know you see local police helicopters flying the coast all the time on the gulf..
