I have mentioned before that my wife is from South Africa. Interestingly, malls have become even more popular there, due to the rampant crime issue they have across the country. People see the mall as being a much more safe option. This even applies to things like using an ATM for withdrawing cash. People would rather do that inside the mall, as they have security on-site, and there are the crowds there, as well.
When we visited this past fall, the best shopping options were within a couple of different malls, and they were extremely busy.

What is the opinion of South Africans in reference to Oscar Pistorius, a/k/a Blade Runner?

Interesting Rockmart!!! I just saw where the mall here in AThens...we call it the "sMall" has now posted a sign at the entrance that basically says, "Enter at your own risk". It goes on to say they can't be responsible for your safety while shopping.
I haven't been to the Mall of Georgia in years, but, I've heard it's headed the same route. For reasons I can't mention on this forum, Malls, once a cool place to shop and generally shop around, have now become a haven for other activities here.
Oddly, and as you mention, it almost seems like they would be the other way around.

They all know he did it. It is a conflicting thing when the news like that initially breaks, as folk take pride in their countrymen making an impact on the global stage. But then it becomes pretty clear what is the truth, and they look at the situation correctly.

Yep. I haven't been to Cumberland Mall in a while. I know one of the last times I was there, a woman who was exiting the Penny's store (I think) had her purse stolen right out of her hands by a fine young man. The security folk were immediately chasing him. I think they must have been following him already. The chase didn't take very long because they came after him in small security pickup trucks while he ran around the parking lot on foot. He got really tired pretty quickly and they had not trouble apprehending him.
We only go to Town Centre when the See's store is set up, and that is only a couple/few times in the year.
Security is "the" reason why the malls are so popular there. People feel like they can shop and have peace of mind while doing so. Maybe if we'd start getting robbed more frequently out in the normal areas, we'd start going back to the mall. Just put lots of security in there.
