Went to ye olde Atlanta airport on Saturday afternoon/evening.

It may have been as busy as I have ever seen it. We went to the international terminal and was using "normal" hourly parking. For the first time since I've been going there they had posted a sign saying international hourly parking was full. I could not believe it when I saw it. But... as one would guess... I went in anyway, and as I was approaching the entrance gate they had another sign posting how many parking spots were available on each level (??). The entire hourly parking deck was indeed slam-packed full. But I got a spot really quickly where someone was leaving.

Even the international terminal, inside, was extremely busy with people. But... what was odd was that by the time my wife was going through security the place had gotten way less hectic. The line to get through security was almost nothing at all. You know how they have those serpentine paths they have you go through. I think she was more than halfway through the 2nd row as soon as she got in line. Weird.

I am wondering if people are starting to go out to the international terminal rather than use the old North/South terminals, as the international truly is much better. They have a long term parking deck out there, and when my wife and I went through there back in the fall of last year, the parking deck was completely full. They had a couple of guys working out there and they weren't letting anybody into the deck unless they had made a reservation. We had to drive all the way to the opposite side of the airport and park in the giganto long-term parking lot, check in on that side, and then ride the train out to the opposite end to get to our gate for an international flight.

That is one crazy-busy airport.

Back in February I flew out of the international terminal. We used one of the private parking services off of the airport property with a shuttle to the international terminal. We had covered parking and the shuttles ran every 30 minutes to and from the terminal. For three people for 7 days parking and the shuttle it cost $175. It was well worth the price.

There is an Atlanta airport shuttle that runs out of Augusta every hour. They will not drop off or pick up at the international terminal, only the domestic, so you have to make your way to the international terminal inside the airport. They charge $62 per person each way.

I checked to see how much I paid for what was 2 weeks and 2 days for the long-term lot at the airport (domestic side) back in the fall, and it was $170. This was in a big parking lot, no cover. Bear in mind, they don't charge a per person rate. It is just a daily rate for your car. It was my wife and I in the car. You have to get on a shuttle even when you park there... same if you park in the long-term parking deck on the international side. The shuttle part, I guess, is just included, being on the airport property. People do typically tip the driver, though. Depending on who it is, they'll help you get bags on and off of the shuttle bus. For our South Africa trip the flight includes 2 checked bags per person, plus a carryon bag per person. That's a load to put on and off of the bus. Some drivers (especially if they're guys) will help you just so they can get it on or off more quickly.

I think the daily rate for the long-term parking deck on the international side is more expensive. Unless you are up on the very top of the deck you are in covered parking on that side. I would much prefer to be in covered parking, although I have parked out in that giganto parking lot on the domestic side a good number of times.

They closed down the large uncovered lot on the south terminal late last year,  think they are building a new deck.  Also, about 7 years ago the international deck was $12 a day, same as covered on the domestic side.

Yowch... dang... $19 per day for covered parking. Shoot... go somewhere for two weeks and you're at right about $270.  

I hadn't heard that about the new deck over on the domestic side. I bet it'll be extremely popular.

We used the international deck in 2019 when we went to the UK for two weeks. I have no clue what we paid, then.
