Hmmm... Microsoft vulnerabilities laid bare?

A worldwide outage due to an outage within the Microsoft network?

Our work network is directly affected. Delta Airlines and American Airlines have grounded all flights? 911 systems are down? Hospital networks are down?

I can't believe that there is no redundancy built in as such that something like this could never happen.

But, hey, dang HOTD is up and crankin'. "Microsoft that".
John 14:6

Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me."

1 Timothy 2:5-6

For there is one God, and one mediator also between God and men, the man Christ Jesus, who gave Himself as a ransom for all, the witness for this proper time.

Acts 4:12

And there is salvation in no one else; for there is no other name under heaven that has been given among men by which we must be saved.”

I was just talking to our IT guy about this. We were about to switch over to CrowdStrike, but he put it off due to the manpower required to make the switch (thank goodness).

It really could end up being a catalyst for big companies to think about the risks of moving to systems that are all integrated like this. This whole internet, cloud based setup is a huge risk to the economy. This kind of shit is what we expected Y2K to look like, but even if there had been any failures there, they would have been isolated to specific companies or even industries. Stuff like this is affecting so many different companies and industries that the business side of operations is slowed to a crawl or halted entirely.

let me tell you... the world runs on AWS right now (Amazon web services , includes cloud storage and computing for those not familiar). if they were to have an outage like this it would be even worse... devastating .

Yeah, an event of this magnitude surely can't go without something uber-serious being done in response. I have no clue what is the full magnitude of this outage. I do know of at least one major/global pharmaceutical whose entire Microsoft 365 services are all kaput. When two major airlines ground ALL of their flights, there will be some monetary damages to be paid (surely?). When 911 systems don't work, somebody will be demanding something be done to be sure this never happens again. When hospital networks go offline, high-level meetings are already ongoing.

I fully agree that the cloud model isn't such a great idea. After all, all that "cloud" means is that other companies let you use THEIR data centers, rather than you use your own, and you access them over the internet (which has any and every rogue deviant crawling all over it 24/7).

We've brought up new internet-connected services in the past, and within hours we can see hackers trying to get into the router that is connected to the internet.

The only thing that makes internet connectivity so lucrative is that it is cheaper than having full secured private lines.

We'll see what comes of all of this. This, today, is massive in more than just the fact that services have been affected today. This will determine future decisions... lots of them... or it well should.

As soon as some congressmen/women can't make their insider trading stock purchases, I expect the CEOs of Microsoft and CloudStrike to be called to testify as to why this intern clicked and pushed this update without testing it.

I just read that the entire state of Georgia system is down for car tags... both online and in-office.

It is after 11:00 am. I don't know what time this outage began. Based on what I am reading, this must have begun late last night, before midnight. Based on what I am seeing, this is still ongoing.
