The Silver Comet Trail has been a huge success, taking what was then-abandoned CSX railway track and turning it into a recreational trail, connecting Smyrna to Rockmart, and then extending the trail all the way to Cedartown, and past Cedartown to the Alabama line where it meets with the Chief Lidaga Trail, which runs 33 miles to Anniston, Alabama. I have an old Air Force buddy who travels all the way from South Carolina (he and his wife and several other bicycling enthusiast buddies) to come ride the Silver Comet Trail. He told me that there is nothing like it anywhere else in the region.
Now, they are getting ready to build a 211-mile trail which will run all the way from Savannah to Athens! This will become the longest paved trail in the entire United States!
