AKHOTD how long should I plan on it taking to smoke a 20 lb pork shoulder?

They had some at Costco this morning that were 19 to 21 lbs that were under $40.

Seems like a good plan for the opening day football games, even if I have to start it the night before.

Ain't done one that size yet, so no idea.  But I think cutting it in half and getting a little more bark isn't a bad idea.

If you have a pellet smoker, put it on at 200 the night before and it's not gonna over cook.

My son has a pellet grill and he cuts them in half or thirds a lot and unless you are a competition guy or a bbq snob, can’t tell the difference.

Smok’in on the other hand may not approve !

i cook butts at 225. Some cook quicker than others. Looking for a internal temp of about 203. when it gets to 160 or so it will stall. you can cook your way thru it or wrap it in foil at that point and let it finish. I have had cooks go 18 hours and some get done in 12-14.
