Pigs N Peaches was a good time. Our team finished middle of the pack out of 18 teams. Very disappointing. The top ten teams used Rec Tec or Treager pellet smokers. I thought our food was outstanding but the judges preferred the pellet smoked flavor over charcoal or wood smokers. We’ve been discussing our future events - so Smokin…we may need to talk.
The pictures are not great but the food was…

I think they should have divisions. Pellet smokers (I have two rectecs and love them) biggest advantage is temperature consistency. The wood/smoke flavor is as easy to get with a regular charcoal grill as a pellet smoker. The big difference is temperature control and unless someone uses their charcoal cooker a lot, I mean a whole lot, it is hard to maintain consistent temperature using baffles and vents.
Let the pellet smoker guys compete against each other and let the charcoal guys compete with each other.

Those pellet smokers will be SOL. If Poop Hits The Fan and they can’t go to the store and buy more pellets.
The charcoal/wood smokers can go to exclusively wood and keep on smoking. That’s why I bought the charcoal/wood smoker for myself.

I have both. The pellet smokers won't work without electricity or pellets. If the poop hits the fan and the dystopia lasts longer than a month or so, what type of smoker/grill you have will be the least of your concerns.

I have used one of a friends…they work well, right now I have too many grills as it is..4 burner Weber Genesis, 22” Weber Kettle (favorite), small mini max BGE that was a gift and a Weber Smoky mountain..it will handle 4 butts at once, and will burn 10 or so hours with hardly any attention around 225..ask me how often I need 4 pork butts?

Thanks. Our thoughts were very much in line with HOTD. The two types both produce great smoke flavor - but one is cleaner and more consistent temp is easier to cook. Bottom line - not sure it’s not apples to apples (or peaches to peaches).

Simple, NO electricity can be used for the grills/smokers. Like God intended it to be. Can't imagine the damn ear killin' noise all the generators make.
