Sophomore Ryan Olree posted his second-straight top-10 finish and freshman Izzy Yonas led the Lady Bulldogs across the finish line for the first time to help the Georgia men's and women's cross country teams finish fifth and 11th, respectively, at the Southern Showcase on Friday morning. The men's team tallied 153 points in the 8k race, placing fifth as a team to open the day. On the women's side, Georgia finished 11th with 339 points in the team's second 5k of the season. The Bulldogs will have a month off from competition before returning to the course at Alabama's Crimson Classic on Oct. 18. That meet will mark the final regular season meet before the SEC Championships, which are slated for Nov. 1 in College Station, Texas.
The Georgia women's tennis team earned eight combined victories across singles and doubles play at the Debbie Southern Furman Fall Classic and the Battle in the Bay Classic on Friday. The Bulldogs will continue with day two at the Debbie Southern Furman Fall Classic and day three at the Battle in the Bay Classic on Saturday, Sept. 14 with action taking place all day.
Georgia men's tennis opened the Fall campaign with the conclusion of day one at the Southern Intercollegiate Championships at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex on Friday."It was a great first day," said head coach Jamie Hunt. "Our doubles was outstanding. Three teams going 2-0 on the day. Oscar and Miguel played at a high level beating a preseason Top 5 team. In singles, we competed very well and won some tough matches. The Bulldogs are back tomorrow for more Southern Intercollegiate Championships action. Play is set to begin at 8 a.m. ET. The University of Georgia volleyball team beat the Boston College Eagles in four sets on Friday in the Bulldogs' home opener at Stegeman Coliseum (25-9, 25-21, 24-26, 25-20).Georgia will close out preseason tournament action Saturday taking on Jacksonville at 10:30 a.m. then Utah Valley at 7:30 p.m. Admission is free.
