Wouldn't it have been a catch and he was down by contact, not an incomplete pass? As I recall, he possessed the ball, and it bounced up when it hit the ground. They ruled it incomplete after review. Maybe he didn't strictly possess it because it bounced up when it hit the ground? But he was in bounds, and the ground can't cause a fumble. Those refs, man.

UK HC Stoops sent the video of that play to the SEC office.

Anyone have a link to a slow motion replay? They didn’t show the replay at the game.

HERE
I feel like it was a completed pass and Lovett was down by contact. Ball didn't touch the ground until after he gained possession.

I'm glad to see the mainstream media picking up on the ineptitude of SEC officiating. It has been embarrassingly bad for years but it has finally jumped the shark and the media is taking note of it. When the coaches of both the winning and losing teams are contacting the SEC office after games to complain about officiating you know it is really bad.

Here's my takeaway. If you give them that TD, we kick the O in gear sooner and win. Or you could balance it out by not calling the Roughing the passer on JW11 which forces them to punt from inside the 10. We were going to win that game regardless.

That's the complete opposite of a completed pass. you can't catch a pass when the ball hits the ground. that's been a rule since the beginning of football

That's right. I had to look up the rule. Possession has to be maintained for the pass to be complete. While the ground can't cause a fumble, the ground can cause an incompletion.

That is an obvious incompletion. The ball hit the ground and bounced up in the air. That is no different than a receiver sliding and trapping the ball between his body and the ground and the ball popping out. If Lovett had gotten his hands under the ball and his hands hit the ground and the ball popped up into the air, the ball would have still been live. That is not what happened there.

It's laughable for sure.
