Probably won’t be the most popular response with some. And I completely get it. I use MacBook Pro. The battery life is unmatched. It really depends on how you use it. I do sales and travel around north GA a lot so the battery is important to me. And 99% of my factories have web based ordering now so PC and Mac work just fine. I’ve had my current one for 4 years and it works perfectly

I’ve had a Lenovo laptop for the last several years and it works just fine for my needs
Supposedly they are a division of IBM.

Most any new laptop should work, unless you work for Musk designing rockets.
SSD is a must...solid state hard drive..IMHO... I use a MacBook Air...I realize they aren't for everyone.
Second on the Macbook. Really depends on what you need to do with it. My experience is that Macs just last longer. You get free OS updates, so you're not constantly dealing with new releases of windows, and upcharges to deal with PCs.
We have two iMacs and one of them is close to 15 years old. Only things I've had to do with that one is upgrade the memory (which I just chose to do) and change the power supply, which I had to do because the original one failed after 12 or 13 years. The only reason I had to buy a new iMac was because I use it to do taxes and TurboTax stopped supporting the older iMac when it stopped taking OS updates. Otherwise, despite the price, it's been the best computer I've owned. PCs really start to bog down when they are 5 years old or so. We just bought a Macbook Air for our kid to upgrade her from her chromebook she's been using. The Macbook is lighter than most PC laptops, but the battery life is far and away better on the Macbook. Also, you can get some good deals this time of year. The 13" Macbook Air with an M2 chip is on sale at Costco for $700.

I have an Acer laptop and fairly new Dell desktop. Love the Acer, boots up fast & does everything I need easily. The new Dell, however, is annoying in that with every start up comes several minutes delay for updates…never had this issue with the old Dell , but hey, I’m long retired and not “in the arena” anymore.
