Suggestion for a not too hard to find bourbon to take to a tasting party?

(12-18-2024, 12:14 PM)Replying to JC-DAWG83 Angel's Envy is good, so is Buffalo Trace.  I think Buffalo Trace is as good as I'll ever need and it isn't expensive.  I'd probably take Angel's Envy to a party/tasting event since it is a little less well known.

Bourbon in general has turned into a big scam.  I've had some crazy expensive stuff and some very reasonably priced stuff and the difference is negligible unless you are some sort of bourbon expert.  The really low end stuff is harsh but once you get above the bottom shelf bourbon the improvement as you go up in price is pretty minor.

(12-18-2024, 11:20 AM)Replying to FeralDawg I like Angels Envy bourbon and Total Wine has it for $40 a bottle. Sure you can get a bottle of Evan Williams cheaper but it won't be as smooth. After the first DRINK nothing matter out of any of the BOOZE out there. You go a little taste blind. If you're planning on using it as a mixer with Coke just give some trash like Evan Williams or JD.

4 Roses is also a pretty smooth DRINK

I don't think I'd want to attend a bourbon tasting parting that involves mixers but thaw's just me

Yeah. I just thought I'd throw it out there. I have had more expensive likkas but I choose to stay in the Angels Envy, 4 Roses, Basil Hayden area price wise.
I also like Teeling Irish Whiskey and Tullamore DEW aint so bad either for the price point.
I was really surprised about how much I liked that Teeling Irish Whiskey.  Really easy sipper.

Yeah, I was given a bottle by one of the distributors for printing some stuff for em and was surprised how good it was for the price point. Now you can get 'upgraded' versions but the basic is plenty good for me.

LOL!!!! I get that. Fortunately I am not that big of a snob. I don't like harsh BOOZE, but can't tell if I am drinking a $250 bottle of Japanese bourbon so I set a limit so I don't feel like I am getting jobbed.
I don't drink Scotch so I miss out on the really expensive stuff like Lagavulin or Laphroaig.
