In June of 2014, they actually had a swearing in ceremony for new US Citizens. It was an emotional experience for us.

Yes it is very cool. There are a lot of exhibits so plan to give it most of a day so that you are not rushed. One thing that stands out to me was when war broke out, the relative paucity of soldiers the US had compared to Japan and Germany. Those guys were planning this thing waaaaay before the war started.

One thing that stands out to me was when war broke out, the relative paucity of soldiers the US had compared to Japan and Germany. Those guys were planning this thing waaaaay before the war started. Japan had been at war in China since 1931 so they weren't starting at day zero like we were. Hitler had been building up the German military since March of 1935. The US had always been a country with a very small standing army, the same with England. The British army only had about 224,000 regular army soldiers in 1938. Both the US and England really reduced the size of their militaries after WW1. |
