SAN DIEGO, Calif. — The Georgia women's golf team finished the first day of the San Diego State Classic in third place behind top-10 efforts from Chantal El Chaib and Kate Song on Monday. The Bulldogs posted an overall score of 579 over 36 holes to finish the opening day of competition 3-over par. El Chaib and Song finished their days in second and 10th, respectively, with 36-hole scores of 136 (-8) and 141 (-3). Heading into the final 18 holes, Georgia is six strokes behind second place UNLV while El Chaib is six strokes off the individual lead. Georgia will wrap up the San Diego State Classic with the third and final round on Tuesday morning. The Bulldogs will pair up with Stanford and UNLV with action kicking off from The Heights Golf Club in an 11 a.m. ET shotgun start.

The Bulldogs have advanced to the ITA National Team Indoor final for the second time in the last three seasons, where they will play for a chance to win their seventh national championship and fifth indoor title in program history. Georgia now leads the all-time series 7-1 against Virginia. In doubles, the tandem of Dasha Vidmanova and Mell Reasco struck first with a dominant 6-0 victory over Melodie Collard and Karolina Kozakova on court one. Within minutes, the duo Guillermina Grant and Anastasiia Lopata secured the doubles point with a 6-2 win over #23 Annabelle Xu and Martina Genis Salas on court two. In singles, Sofia Rojas continued her stellar run with a convincing 6-2, 6-0 victory over Blanca Pico Navarro on court six to give the Bulldogs a 2-0 lead. Rojas has now tallied a singles victory in each round at the ITA National Team Indoors, extending her winning streak to six matches this season. #90 Grant followed suit as she took control early and never looked back, taking a 6-0, 6-3 win over #64 Collard on court five to put Georgia one point away from a clinch. #75 Aysegul Mert raced to the finish, securing the clinch and the sweep with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Genis Salas on court four. The win extends her winning streak to five matches in singles play. The No. 1 Bulldogs will face the winner between No. 2 Texas A&M and No. 12 Oklahoma in the ITA National Team Indoor Championships Final on Tuesday, Feb. 11 at 7:30 p.m. ET at the Combe Tennis Center in Evanston, Ill.

The Bulldogs ended the day after shooting a collective 6-under 282. Sophomore Grayson Wood paced the Bulldogs shooting 3-under par and is tied for 13th on the leaderboard. Senior Buck Brumlow followed and is tied for 21st after shooting 2-under for the round. Graduate Student George Langham followed, tied for 29th at 1-under. He shot four birdies on the front nine. Junior Carter Loflin ended the day even with par at T44 with Freshman James Earle coming in at 1-over at T51. Individually, Freshman Matt Moloney opened the tournament shooting 4-over at T77. Ole Miss sits in first at 16-under 272, followed by Purdue at 14-under 274 and Oklahoma at 13-under 275. The top-five is closed out by South Carolina at 11-under 277 and Virginia at 8-under 280. The Puerto Rico Classic continues on Tuesday at 7:30 a.m with round two.

Newell has now won the accolade four times this season, equaling Anthony Edwards for the most SEC Freshman of the Week honors by a Bulldog. Georgia treks to Texas A&M on Tuesday for a matchup against the No. 8/9 Aggies, who represent the Bulldogs' sixth top-10 opponent in their 12th SEC game this season.
