EVANSTON, Ill. — The No. 1 Georgia women's tennis team earned its seventh national championship and fifth national indoor title in program history after knocking off No. 2 Texas A&M, 4-1, in the ITA National Team Indoor Championship final at the Combe Tennis Center on Tuesday.
The Bulldogs secured their first national title since 2019.
Head coach Drake Bernstein becomes the fastest head coach in Georgia women's tennis program history to win a national championship at the helm.
Dasha Vidmanova becomes the first college women's tennis player to secure the championship trifecta since Stanford's Nicole Gibbs in 2013, winning all three team, singles and doubles national titles in her collegiate career.
In doubles, the Bulldogs jumped out to a strong start on court two as Guillermina Grant and Anastasiia Lopata cruised past Mia Kupres and Daria Smetannikov, 6-1. Despite trailing through most of the match, Dasha Vidmanova and Mell Reasco came back to secure the doubles point for Georgia with a 7-5 win over Mary Stoiana and Lucciana Perez on court one.
Heading into singles, Sofia Rojas capped off her dominant tournament run in stride, defeating Lexington Reed, 6-2, 6-4, on court six to double the Bulldogs' lead.
#75 Aysegul Mert battled through a hard-fought match against #41 Perez, dialing in to secure a 6-2, 7-5 win and put Georgia one point away from a clinch.
Despite a Bulldog loss on court three, #1 Vidmanova came through in the clutch to hold off #3 Stoiana in a second set breaker to take the match 6-1, 7-6(5) and earn the clinch for Georgia.
