So my brother used to go occasionally and his advice is be careful what you carry(no weapons of any kind), bring extra toilet paper, some things they will confiscate so don't get silly with how much stuff you are toting because you may lose it all. He had soldiers board one of their boats and carry everything they could off it one time. Toothpaste, soap, socks. Said it was crazy what they needed down there. The good side of the island where the resorts are are real safe but be careful outside the resort.

Thanks. We are going as part of a mission trip that is run by an organization that does a lot of them so hopefully we will be OK. But they also tell us not to go anywhere unless you are in a group of 4.
