Modern medicine and a German hospital.

The things we do for love of country and Benjamins.

A few weeks back my driver, a retainer, a clerk, and I suffered an incident far away from home. Retainer James Hollis was KIA. My driver suffered a broken neck and died in hospice last night after entering a coma.

The clerk has a broken hip, broken leg, and other injuries. I have a scratch on my lower leg and a slight contrecoup concussion. An officer in a following vehicle was injured when his Stryker flipped. He developed severe intestinal blockage and acute constipation due to a loop in his lower intestine. Yesterday the medical providers placed a tube down his nose and pumped out the septic bowel blockage through the nasal hose. Two nurses left the room gagging.

I sat through his ordeal, and he grasped my left hand so hard I feared my thumb would break. Later, he told me he had a terrible taste in his mouth. I bought him a large pack of grape bubble gum. He has chewed about 25 pieces today.

The U.S. has a way of getting things done; the mission was considered successful.
