GAINESVILLE, Fla. --- Manuela Rotundo shattered the program javelin record and her own Uruguayan national record while Michelle Smith took down a 29-year-old school record in the 400-meter hurdles to highlight a sensational day for the Georgia track & field teams at the Florida Relays on Friday. Rotundo recorded a mark of 64.17 meters/210 feet, 6 inches on her first throw to win the javelin with the No. 2 performance in NCAA history. The freshman from Uruguay came within two centimeters of the collegiate record, leading a 1-2 Bulldog sweep in Gainesville as Lianna Davidson added a runner-up mark of 62.27m/204-3. Smith obliterated the competition in the 400-meter hurdles, running a blazing 54.56 to win the race by 1.23 seconds. Earning her second-straight win in the 400m hurdles, she took over the top spot in the school record books, surpassing Gudrun Arnardottir's time of 54.93 set at the 1996 NCAA Championships. Smith now ranks as the No. 22 performer in the event in NCAA history. Making his Bulldog debut in Gainesville, Moustafa Alsherif finished as the top collegiate finisher with a runner-up performance in the javelin at the Florida Relays.
AUSTIN, Texas – Fifth-ranked Texas defeated Third Ranked Georgia 5-1 Friday in front of a Disch-Falk Field crowd of 7,246. The Bulldogs saw their nine-game winning streak end as Texas left-hander Jared Spencer struck out a career-high 11 in 7.2 innings and allowed one run on two hits with four walks. Georgia (29-3, 8-2 SEC) continues its road series with No. 5 Texas (24-4, 9-1 SEC) Saturday at 3:02 p.m.
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The No. 10 Georgia GymDogs concluded their season on Friday afternoon in Seattle, Wash. at the NCAA Washington Regional, placing third in session one of round two with a score of 196.175. They needed to be in the top two but #7 Missouri and #21 Arizona beat them.
ATHENS, Ga. — The No. 1 Georgia women's tennis team (19-1, 12-0 SEC) remain undefeated in Southeastern Conference play after knocking off No. 13 Vanderbilt (15-5, 8-4 SEC), 4-3, at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex on Friday. The Bulldogs now lead the all-time series 39-13 against the Commodores, winning each of the last eight meetings. The Bulldogs extend their SEC home regular season winning streak to 21 matches dating back to the 2021-22 season. The Bulldogs will return to action for its regular season home finale with a Senior Day date against No. 66 Missouri on Sunday, April 6 at 1 p.m. ET at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex.
ATHENS, Ga. — The 16th-ranked Georgia softball team welcomes No. 4 Texas A&M to Jack Turner Stadium this weekend for a three-game series. The series has been altered due to impending weather on Sunday. The series will now begin with a doubleheader on Saturday at 1 p.m. and 5 p.m. Monday's game will remain at 6 p.m. Tickets for Saturday and Sunday's games can be used for admission to both games of the doubleheader on Saturday.
