Any rec's for restaurants, or must-do-type stuff would be appreciated.

I have. Maybe 20 yrs. ago. I'm not much of a skier either. Booked a couple of trout/salmon side trips that was fun. Turns out a lot of folks in that area poach fish and sell them to restaurants. We ran up on a couple doing just that. Guide called the lawdawgs in on them. USA Olympic team was there practicing up on some glacier way the hell up there. I stayed at the bar.

I hadn't been skiing since grunge and as you know I'm good at that.  Skiing last year? I was shittier than grunge.

Yep, said I'd never do it again...but, you only live once.  I'm planning on trying to avoid anything that more than the kids slope.

But, hell...tell my story!

I'm more interested in the snow mobile, scenery, food and beer FWIW.

Like Land, I’ve been but it was 20 or so years ago. Awesome drive up to the mountain from Vancouver. Weird climate changes. You’ll get on the lift at the bottom of the mountain in rain and ascend to snow. I wish I could tell you more, but memory ain’t what it once was.

Yeah, agree on all of that.   I'm in decent shape for my age.  Usually walk 4-5 miles per day even in bad weather...I do core and pushups...but, need to more for this.   Still, 30 days out...it kinda is what it is.

It is cold there. If I'm doing any Winter travel it will be in a southerly direction seeking warm weather.

Oh yeah, this one is a "one off" for sure.   I wouldn't have even considered it...but, a good friend offered at Zero cost me...including 1st class airline tickets.   I couldn't hardly turn it down, if for nothing else, just to get to see the place.

I haven't spent much time in snow like that...so, it should be fun.

That is about the only way I'd go on a ski trip these days.  We used to drive up to Beech and Sugar Mountain in NC bitd and ski on those ice sheets.  I'd rather have my ass sandpapered than do that now.  When you fell it was like landing on cold, slick concrete.

Buddy who used to be a big time skier told me that going out West to ski was an entirely different experience than trying to ski around here, no matter how good the conditions seemed here.  He would go to Utah every year and ski in the Arapahoe Basin.  He said the hotels, lift tickets, food, drinks, etc. all cost the same as skiing around here.  The only real added cost was the flight out there.

Your buddy told you a partial lie.  Maybe true at the time, but no longer.  True, the skiing is MUCHO better out west.  Sugar and Beech could hardly be considered snow skiing so much as dodge a skier.  I’ve been to both a few times and don’t care if I ever go back.  I’ve skied in Utah, Colorado, Montana, and Canada probably 100 times.  It is a very wide chasm of difference.

Where he told you a lie is the cost.  A lift ticket at Breck is $279 at the window this Friday.  The same day at Beech is $83.  True, you can get a cheaper ticket cost if you plan ahead.  All of the other costs are also more expensive at a similar spread.  The key is planning 6 months or more in advance.  You can make it relatively palatable if you do that.

Damn, I'm glad I ain't paying for this one.   I remember Beech used to be like $15 back in the day for a lift ticket.  Of course, hell, that was 35 years ago.   You could get a happy meal for $2.99 and a new Camaro for $17K.   Life was good.

This trip is pretty wild.  I think all we're paying for is part of the food.  I just want to try not to die.

You’ll be fine, Natty. Ski the greens and enjoy the scenery. You limit the aerobic activity if you can stay upright. The work comes when recovering from a fall and getting back up.

In comparison, a Whislter ticket for Friday at the window is $269cad at the window. That is about $200US.
