Anything by Weller, sorta hard to find, but even the green label (much easier to find than any of the others) is excellent

One of the Maker's Marks Private Selections would be good.  Any of the bigger liquor stores will have their own store picks, where they go to KY and sample the barrel options.  Maker's Mark gives them a blend option.  The bottles look like this:

The numbers on the label vary based on that store's chosen blend and are typically unique to that store.

Also, if the store has their own picks, ask their bourbon guy to recommend their favorite.  If they have an Elijah Craig, that is always a good option too.  Some of the stores still have Elijah Craig Barrel Proof and Elijah Craig Toasted.  Those are also excellent.

Four Roses also has some varying blends that you can ask about as well.

It's a classic HOTD trope. Try any brand made by Buffalo Trace or Woodford Reserve. Those are my typical choices when gifting booze.

I am working, thanks. But seriously, if you don't like my advice go to a bottle shop and let them suggest and buy whatever they are pushing that they make the biggest mark up on. The bourbon market is about the biggest scam there is. Good luck with whatever shit bottle they suggest.

I like Angels Envy bourbon and Total Wine has it for $40 a bottle. Sure you can get a bottle of Evan Williams cheaper but it won't be as smooth. After the first DRINK nothing matter out of any of the BOOZE out there. You go a little taste blind. If you're planning on using it as a mixer with Coke just give some trash like Evan Williams or JD.

4 Roses is also a pretty smooth DRINK

I don't think I'd want to attend a bourbon tasting parting that involves mixers but thaw's just me

Yeah. I just thought I'd throw it out there. I have had more expensive likkas but I choose to stay in the Angels Envy, 4 Roses, Basil Hayden area price wise.
I also like Teeling Irish Whiskey and Tullamore DEW aint so bad either for the price point.

I was really surprised about how much I liked that Teeling Irish Whiskey.  Really easy sipper.

Angel's Envy is good, so is Buffalo Trace. I think Buffalo Trace is as good as I'll ever need and it isn't expensive. I'd probably take Angel's Envy to a party/tasting event since it is a little less well known.

Bourbon in general has turned into a big scam. I've had some crazy expensive stuff and some very reasonably priced stuff and the difference is negligible unless you are some sort of bourbon expert. The really low end stuff is harsh but once you get above the bottom shelf bourbon the improvement as you go up in price is pretty minor.
