UGA Golf Commit wins US Amatur Championship.

UGA golf commit Mason Howell has quickly become a name to know among up-and-coming golfers. His latest performance won him the 125th U.S. Amateur Championship, but it's also punched his ticket to the 2026 Masters Tournament. In doing so, Howell has surpassed Tiger Woods as the third-youngest US Amateur champion. Pitted against Tennessee freshman Jackson Herrington for 36 holes on Sunday, Howell showed he was unfazed by the pressure, winning by a commanding 7&6 margin to take his place in amateur golf history. Howell defeated Eric Lee 3-and-2 on Saturday to advance to the U.S. Amateur championship match at The Olympic Club in San Francisco. A victory on Sunday gave Howell the Havemeyer Trophy along with exemptions into the 2026 Masters, U.S. Open, and Open Championship. Howell now joins the likes of Bobby Jones, Jack Nicklaus, Tiger Woods, and Viktor Hovland to have captured the amateur championship. 


Mason Howell, a high school senior, won the U.S. Amateur on Sunday to become the third-youngest champion ever. Only Byeong Hun An, who won at age 17 in 2009, and Danny Lee, who won a month after his 18th birthday in 2008, were younger.
