Call me weird, but me and girlfriend, Miss Jean from Bolton Cafeteria, were driving through the Oconee Hills Cemetery the other day. It was bumper to bumper traffic up East Campus Road as we were making our way to the High Bar for drinks downtown to watch the sunset. 

  

   
High Bar is great place for sunset and Prickly Pear and Espresso drinks. 

Anyway, I suggested we take a right in to the Oconee Hills Cemetery for the TRD history tour showing her where I played Frisbee golf in the cemetery back in 1980's. She'd never been in here before. We saw (drove by) graves of Wilson Lumpkin, Lucy Cobb, Young Harris, and Ricky Wilson. We crossed the bridge over the Oconee River and veered right just past the bridge and we stumbled upon Bulldog Haven with the grave of Vince Dooley featured prominently. 

Other famous football figures buried at the cemetery include Coach Bill Hartman, Sr., 82 yard punt once against Tulane. College Football Hall of Fame. As well as coach Wally Butts — who won four SEC titles and a National Championship in 1942.

Entrance Marker Bulldog Haven and Jean stands by main monument, a replica of Chapel Bell welded tight to prevent Georgia Tech Mischief. 

Then Vince Dooley's grave right up front. Met him several times. He's signed about 20 programs for me. Was at a Civil War round table once.

  

 

Jean watched me wandering around. She knows my love for Georgia Football and history. 

  

 
Golf Coach Dick Copas 17 NCAA appearances, 10 top-10 finishes, and 7 SEC titles. Craig "Sky" Hertwig Sky was at all the sporting events, he stood tall above the others. Met him several times. 

 
Graves of Tony Cushenberry flew 125 missions in Vietnam. Saw him play G-Day alumni game one time old man against young bucks. Grave of Steve Greer. Me and my pop ran into him at the Kentucky game in Lexington. Spot with peanut shells on floor. Drank a few beers he was from South Carolina, pop did all the talking, he loved that guy.

 
Graves of Quentin Moses 25 sacks for Georgia. He died trying save a mother and child in a house fire. Andy Johnson, 1799 yards rushing as Georgia QB. Played 9 years with New England Patriots. Someone left some Coors beers for Andy. 


Former 1980s Bulldog standout RB Lars Tate, lead the team in rushing 1986 and 1987.  He is buried at Bulldog Haven, but I did not see. Internet shows small marker.
