with plants they've saved from the same line. Say they'll be done by the spring game.
Maybe Smokin' is making it happen?

I wonder why they are replacing them? Privet is damn near impossible to kill.

As I recall, they replaced them all one time because they got some kind of disease. That may have been 20 years ago. I bought one when they sold plants from the line in Athens after the olympics. I planted it at my mom & dad's house and it got some sort of insect infestation and died. I was pissed. I had hoped to take it with me when I bought a house with a better yard...

My only recollection of anything going on with them was when they temporarily removed them (or some of them?) during the 1996 Olympics for the soccer matches being played there.

They pulled all of them for the olympics. They completely regraded the field because a soccer pitch is supposed to be completely level, whereas a football field is graded with a slight crown down the center.

(01-25-2024, 04:02 PM)Replying to RockmartDawgThere's a bunch out there. I was a volunteer ACOG security guard at the Steg. We could attend any olympic event, as long as we wore our uniform and credentials. The gold medal round in Sanford was the only event I went to outside of the events at Stegeman that I used that privilege. I used tickets to go to a couple of events in Atlanta too.(01-25-2024, 02:02 PM)Replying to dncdawg(01-25-2024, 01:40 PM)Replying to RockmartDawg My only recollection of anything going on with them was when they temporarily removed them (or some of them?) during the 1996 Olympics for the soccer matches being played there.

Very cool. I was working in downtown Atlanta at the time, contracting to NationsBank. We were "the" official bank of the Olympics. We had two ATMs inside Olympic Stadium and one or more vans driving around inside the Olympic Ring which had ATMs mounted in the side of the van. Talk about a time when there was ZERO traffic going in and out of town each day. It was awesome. They had to give us a permit/piece of paper to place upon our dash for when we drove into town so they would let us in with our car. I didn't get to attend any events... didn't really have an interest, to be honest. It was interesting, though, getting to go into town to work while most everybody else was not going in. They ended up giving us a set of Olympic Pins that are unique to NationsBank. That was pretty much it. |
