(02-17-2024, 12:16 PM)Replying to RogasingingdawgLOL. JD was a hoot. Worked with a lady that sang in a southern gospel group with her sisters. They played many shows with JD and the Stamps. She told us many funny stories about JD, particularly about his tours with Elvis. Her Dad was a pentecostal preacher from Soperton and the entire family lived down the road from his church. JD and the boys would come through pretty often when they were on the road. They used to sing annually at a fund raiser for the center for folks with developmental disabilities down there BITD. JD was a good man, but had a funny, wicked sense of humor. When he and Little Roy Lewis played shows together there were many shenanigans. Pop Lewis and the family had to keep Little Roy on a leash. Those southern gospel groups were full of excellent musicians. They were good country folk that did great things for people in small communities . It was very touching to see them engage with folks with developmental disabilities in such a loving, respectful and patient manner. They live what they sing.
