1. The young lady WAS technically a UGA student...contrary to our own "law enforcement"...she was in the nursing program that is partnered with Augusta. She was also in a UGA sorority. Not to mention, WTF difference does it make?
2. I realize the thread got moved for comments I and others made. So, I'll tread lightly here... We obviously do not know at this point what happened and who is responsible. However, it should not be a political statement in any way shape, or form to say that ALL of us need to let the University hear from us about keeping Athens safe. Without UGA, Athens would be a wide place in the road. Again, keeping it non-political here, Athens has devolved into a crime-ridden place over the past 7-8 years and it needs to be cleaned up.
I'm a commie freeloader and don't have access to the other board. Obviously, this topic has me hot. My son is still a student at UGA and literally ran by the spot (unknowingly) where the girl's body was found at some point after her death.
Just to add, there's a shit ton of crime that is kept under wraps in Athens for obvious reasons.
I'm posting this here, not to make a political statement on this board, but, to make sure everyone is aware and does their part to voice concerns over our little slice of heaven. Move it if you feel you have too.
Frankly, this message should be push pinned at the top of this board. It's as important as anything we discuss right now.
If you don't think this is one other thing that is being used to negatively recruit against us, you're kidding yourself.

Whatever dude...
I was simply saying it has far-reaching consequences. Recruiting is the least of my concerns with this. But, it is a relevant conversation to our football talk. I'm not here to argue or debate this. A young lady lost her life and there are serious problems in Athens.
I added the recruiting comment....not because it matters in the scheme of things or importance, but because there are some here that it may resonate more with because it impacts the cash cow. You can bet this is on Kirby's radar.

Not even saying you are wrong, but the juxtaposition made me laugh.

I could not agree more. When you send your child away to a college town you want them safe and protected. It's just insane how certain people are trying to change
the wonderful small city vibe of Athens to be more like Seattle or ASSheville. Some men(and women) just want to watch the world burn. This isn't political in any way...just good versus bad.
On an odd note: This story made the New York Times for some reason. With all the violence and evil in that city it sure makes one pause.

I didn’t want to move the other thread, but was obligated to do so.
Everyone please tread lightly.

Yep, totally get it. Wasn’t trying to make work for you guys.
I truly believe this has become an awareness issue now. Doesn’t matter (well, it does) about the politics anymore. There are problems that need to be fixed stat.

How large is that park behind / around the lake? Seems they could set up cams all around that area. BWDIK?

Question. Where is the "political" board? Does it only show up for paying members?

Cameras would be a good start. But, this is a much larger problem. This particular location is one small area of issue. The larger issue is how unsafe in general Athens has become. Several factors that I can't mention here. But, the town now has more areas that are not safe than ever. ...Just a side note...I've fought the narrative until just recently. Friend of my daughters was raped 2 blocks from downtown 2 years ago and nothing has improved.

non paying members can't edit, have a sig, see the political board and nobody can cut and paste with confidence

Natty, I agree with your points
On #2, as long as the ACCPD is strangled by Council, things will not get better. I suppose folks could quit leaving Athens and vote to keep the police strong..but that ship may have sailed
I hope your Son stays safe. Tell him to be aware of his surroundings at all times, don't walk around with headphones in and staring at your phone all the time...distracted folks are an easy target in today's world.

Thanks for that. Honestly, I'm more worried about the safety of his classmates...female for the most part. But, the way the crime is headed, you don't have to be a weak female to have problems. But generally, my son is likely not their target audience.
And yes, you are 100% correct in your comment. I was steering clear of that. Hopefully, the pressure is going to increase for better days.
