White has another year. If the team doesn't win next year recruiting will be dead and the good players won't stay. Both m/w programs are bad.

Men’s team is not nearly as bad as women.

Men’s team is better than their record indicates.

They should have at least 4 more wins.

I think he has at least two more seasons.  He was rebuilding completely from scratch.  This season has been slightly disappointing, but really that's more a function of how we did relatively well early and then had a long stretch of face plants.  Missouri sucked, of course, but they played a few games pretty close.  The difference from middle to bottom of the conference isn't that far, and we were probably a quality player away from being a good team this year.

I like UGA basketball because it gives us a major sport that we can view objectively without going into a major depressive event when we lose.  You can watch each game and hope for the best, and not even be in a bad mood when we look like crap.  This team has been entertaining to watch.

I'm kind of tired of hearing the "rebuilding from scratch" excuse.  With NIL and a 1 year rule, everyone is basically rebuilding from scratch every year.  Hell, the good players we had last year went on to other places.  The good ones we have this year will probably go on to somewhere else too.  Meanwhile, the guy at UF, and the guy at South Carolina have both been there as long as Mike White has been in Athens, and look at them.  Maybe they had big foundations, but how many UF guys followed Mike White to Athens?  I don't know if it's really the coaching that's a problem.  I don't know if it is the facilities.  I don't know if it's recruiting.  If I had the answers, I wouldn't be a keyboard cowboy.  This team was certainly entertaining up until league play.  That Florida game pissed me off so bad that I quit watching them this year.  I hope they figure it out.  If they make it through to Friday, that will be miraculous.  If they make it deeper, it will be apocalyptic, like a tornado hitting the Georgia Dome apocalyptic.

Roster churn is what worries me most about White.  He played a lot of freshman last night.  That's good because they're the future, but now White needs to hang on to those guys and add quality throughout the roster.  Without NIL and the transfer portal I'd be more confident that White could emulate what the mid-majors would do, build a roster on 3-4 year players as a cohesive, experienced multi-year team. That is not the current state of college bball.

And I completely disagree that we should award this team 3-5 more wins because shit happened.  That's silly.

Understood, but what you say is correct, UF and SC had more to start with, and have at least some recent history to build off of.  We have sucked since Tubby left in the 90s.  Can't blame the current guy for that.  It isn't the facilities, it isn't the coach, it could be the commitment to the sport from the AD and alums.  I can appreciate the ability to rebuild a team in a year with NIL money, but that ain't the coach's responsibility.  We've got some great things to offer potential players - great education, hot coeds, ability to play right away, good TV exposure.  If we can back that up with market rate NIL, we could have a nice run.

Yeah.  Honestly, I think the NIL, like with football, is only going to create a broader gap between the blue blood programs and the rest of the field.

You forgot about the Harrick years.  He may have been one of the best Georgia coaches of all time.  If only he hadn't spent $100 on a tv, and his son asked harder questions on his "Fundamentals of Basketball" tests...

An observation that I haven't seen mentioned in this thread so far, even at the last game of the season, as much as we "struggled" this year, Stegman was still rocking by Stegman standards.

I think that's going to help maintain some of these guys for next year.  They see the fans are buying into what they are doing, and see that they are putting in the effort and work.  Add to that, I don't think any of these guys are gonna be high profile enough that other schools are going to entice them to leave.

Could be wishful thinking, since it is a relatively young team who's playing together for the first time, but CMW made some good progress in building a foundation IMO.  The streaky nature of the team's shooting was frustrating as all get out, if we had more consistent shooting in some of those blown leads, we win 3-5 more games easily.

This is true.  I think a lot of that has to do with the re-seating that happened this year, moving the students more into view of the camera.  That start was hot too, and got a lot folks fired up.  Since I stopped watching, I didn't see if it was consistent, even later into the season, but they had a lot of giveaways for students too.  Maybe the beer sales are getting them in the door.  lol.

I did forget about them, but when it comes down to it, we won A NCCA tournament game and then lost to an 11th seed.  And the win was vacated by the NCAA.  And then had our longest stretch without going to the tourney since the field expanded to 64 (excluding of course, our current ongoing streak).

Unlike seasons past, this team was competative through the season.  With an exception of a few games, we had a chance to win pretty much all of them towards the end of the games.  That's a big change from what we are used to as Dawg Fans.
